The last 4 months have been tough. Long story short, my lovely 3 year old Labrador was run over by a lorry in November, breaking her pelvis. Surgery was completed and she came home in December and seemed to be recovering well before showing signs of severe discomfort.

Discospondylitis was diagnosed and she was placed on the antibiotic clavaseptin, with gabapentin and Metacam for the pain. We’re approximately 7 weeks into her treatment and it’s been so up and down. There have been days/weeks where her progress seems clear then others where she’s in more pain and noticeably limping more. Emotionally it’s pretty tough.

I suppose I just wanted to know if anyone else has been through this with their dog. How did their recovery go? Did you experience the same ups and downs or a more stable upward curve in their recovery?

Similar story here. Found your post searching google for anecdotal evidence of recovery. Cocker had an op for Luxating patella, a week of progress later and he was readmitted to vets with severe pain and diagnosed with Discos. We had ups and downs after he came back from the vets the second time and seem to have figured out that restricting his movement seems to allow him to stiffen up too much and make getting up harder. In our case the key seems to be to keep him moving without him ripping about the place and just stay mobile. Hope your labs doing ok.
