So he's gone to play in the garden with the chickens and the bees.

how long have you been keeping bees?

does it take much work?

eta - does that cat bother them and do they bother the cat?

Thanks. smile

I've not seen another cat with eyes the same as hers, aside from her brother who is unfortunately no longer with us.

Very handsome cat, but why call your cat 'cat'? smile

We don't have a proper hive at the moment as our garden is too small. Friends of ours do though, and it's great - very easy to keep, they don't even wear their suits most of the time as they very rarely get stung.

We have a bunch of solitary bee houses, and grow things like lavender and rosemary specifically to attract them. They haven't pollinated our cherry tree yet though!

The cat likes to try and catch them. I've not seen him get one yet, but we've only had him 6 weeks...

I must admit you're the first person who's twigged that Neko means cat in Japanese.

I think it fits her well, I've always said black cats are like essence of cat, so "cat" in another language seemed apt smile

I had a cat called Cat once. It was/had been a stray and Cat seemed to suit it somehow.

My Whitey was a stray. Just came in and plonked himself in front of the fire one day, and never left.

When I was a student a random cat started coming into our house. He became RC.
He was sick once after licking up a puddle of stale beer left under the table after a party. We hoovered it up.

I used to go to Japan a lot some years ago, and picked up a series of books by a US Japan office employee who'd made a good few Yen from a newspaper column. His cat was called Neko, and when he was repatriated to US he took it with him. At the departure desk the Japanese official asked him what was in the carry box, and he replied that it was his cat. The official then asked what the cat's name was - for the paperwork - and he said "Neko". Apparently the puzzled look on the official's face was a wonder to be seen! "Yes, but what is its name?" "Neko" Rinse and repeat...
