Let me introduce Ella - my new rescue hound. We met when she arrived at my house on Saturday morning with someone from the rehoming charity (she needed a place ASAP so I offered to foster her initially).
She is a bit neglected as her previous owner was old and then passed away. I think probably he could not cope as she is beautifully trained, very smart, superb in any situation - her second night we ended 'up at a pub where she sat happily while being approached by loads of people wanting to stroke her. She was I think a much loved and valued companion to her late owner.

She is a lot bigger than she looks and once she is back up to proper weight and her coat is nice and shiny again she will look stunning! 3 days in and so far, she really is pretty much the perfect dog :-)

Anyone else here own a beagle?
I never knew what I had let myself in for when I got Boris at 6 weeks old.
I should have been warned when I'd phoned up a 'dog whisperer' who was very enthusiastic until they asked what breed. I got a very cold, "We don't do beagles."
Also a local add for someone re-homing a beagle. It said that 'only people with [previous beagle experience should apply' and warned the dog was 'very beagley'!

Going on unsanctioned expeditions.
Being amazing escapologists.
Having their manic 'bay-bark' when they spot some small animal (e.g., rabbit, squirrel, weasel - slightly different style for each animal!).
Constantly stealing stuff as trophies (esp. underwear).
Being far too clever for a dog (working out how to open latched cupboards, fridges etc). The worst time being working out how to get out of a travel carrier in my car, jumping into the drivers seat and licking my face so that I can't see where I'm driving.
Face licking fetish.
Absolutely not being able to be walked on a lead without pulling the entire walk.
Being able to (somehow) get up onto kitchen surfaces beyond jumping height (not worked this one out yet)
Coming in from the garden head to toe in mud after being arse deep digging out a rabbit hole. And then thinking it's a game of chase over the new furniture when you try and catch them for a clean.
I could go on....

I did introduce these two a while ago, but I will do it again as one has grown rather a bit :
Max, the (squint) 3 year old Pug:
Rocco, the 11 month old French Bulldog:
When they are not kicking the crap out of each other (play fighting) they are pretty close:
Both are big Man United fans and fight over the jersey, last night was Rocco's turn and he was happy to pose:
