Here's our new Dogue De Bordeaux pup (we picked up today) - Gibson. With our 2 and a half year old bullmastiff/bordeaux cross Betty. He seems to be settling in well and Betty seems quite keen on him too.

(sorry for the instagram'd iphone pic - it's all I have)

This is Harvey , when he is out anywhere he is totally obsessed with fetching his ball

sometimes he isn't really bothered with playing with other dogs if the opportunity arises , smaller , larger or even the same breed.

is this unusual for Border Collies ? He can get quite grumpy with other dogs at times and mainly only tolerates females in close proximity , we are considering getting a second one , any advice ? good or bad idea ?

In my experience, yes.

I used to have a Collie and his (slightly older) brother lived next door. They were walked together everyday through out their lives. The older dog was always 100% focused on fetching the ball/stick whilst my dog would circle the older dog and round him up whilst he fetched. Both of them knew their 'roles' and never ever varied from them. When alone my dog would adore fetch but if his older brother was there he never touched the ball despite being faster.

Collies love to work, it's as simple as that. When you're out walking and playing fetch your Collie only wants to 'work' for you and has no interest in pretty much anything else.

They are such a wonderful breed. I truly feel privileged to have lived with one for 15 years..

As the weathers turned cold and the festive season is approaching heres a snow pic from the last batch of snow we had. Sadly lola, my beloved dogue (the smaller of the two dogues) died suddenly and unexpectedly from a fit ealier this year.

My collie acts the same way. Think we're just unlucky. He gets grumpy if you look at him too long, if you scratch the wrong part of his head. Very wary around other dogs, and totally fixated on his ball. I always thought it was because we trained him badly, but now, after 8 years he has finally started to be more sociable and less frantic. Don't know about getting a second one. Ours is much better when he is introduced to other dogs on neutral ground. He can't stand our neighbours' dogs, but is quite happy to run about with them in the park or if we meet them on the roads. I wouldn't get another unless you are very confident in your training skills

Archie down the beach waiting for his ball...

...and with his ball...

...then out in the garden when we got home.

My business partner's Leonberger, called Duke, who's a week older than Archie.

Oakley...

Checking out the pistonheads dog thread...

Staffy chasing!

This one always makes me laugh, spent all morning cleaning the car, then had the realisation I'd lost the dog! Checked the house and no sign. Thought he may of wondered off to the woods so hopped in the car to head him off only to find this staring up at me...

Probably something to do with where you left his ball . . . or did he put it there?!

wink

If the car in your profile is your only mode of transport I think you are going to need a larger upgrade!

I have a skoda octavia vrs (hatch) now. I'm using the new dog as leverage towards getting an estate.
