Olive and Opel. Olive is the darker one.

We’re on the hunt for a older female to keep Holly company. Olive and Opel are lovely but due to their age they just want to play all the time. Holly is not into that at all.

On a few Facebook groups to rehoming and normally there are a few locally so it won’t be too long.

Got home today and saw this…Holly hasn’t been on a hammock for ages. She looks so content on there with Opel it’s lovely.

Lovely pics, thank you!
What are these two like for handling? Do you let them out at all?

They don't sit still on you and always want to explore, but are happy to run around you and are first out the cage (Olive is more confident out of the two new ones, Opel is confident but not as much as Olive). We try and get them out daily for an hour or so. Sometimes its longer sometimes it's less.

Holly has never been one for being handled (very common with rats from Pets at Home) but the last few months she has become more relaxed. She doesn't explore that much anymore and is happy sat on the sofa with you under a blanket. She's out for most the evening as we don't have to rat proof the room as she doesn't leave the sofa! Olive and Opel get the hallway to explore.

Just found one of the best ever threads on PH. Totally agree with anyone who says rats make the best pets. Forget hamsters (we've tried a few) - bitey antisocial creatures that keep you awake all night and are escape artists by day taking any opportunity to flee the cage.

Rats are just too smart, you could probably leave the cage open all day and find them tucked up in bed when you get back from work ready for their bedtime story. Pictures on the earlier pages say it all. Like having pet dogs that are small enough to live in a cage. We now have three little boys and they really are adorable.

Love the Youtube video of rats that some university team trained to drive cars (yes seriously).

Today sucks balls.

Holly had gone off her meds (before would take them from the spoon, then with biscoff spread and then not at all). Really struggling to move. Before she could get to the lowest hammock but then just stayed on the floor. Back legs went completely and yesterday we noticed a lump on her head.

Took her down today and we said we think it’s time. The vet agreed and she was out to sleep. Around 30 minutes ago.

She was one of the original ones. The calmer of the two. She was so sweet.

We did get a boggle from her as she was grooming my partner before she was taken away.

The good news is the two we have are around six/seven months old and from a breeder so should be a lot healthier.

Although Holly would have been three in September and other than a couple of visits in the last couple of months she’s been healthy considering she was from Pets at Home.

Holly and Ivy (grey).

Well its been a while! Noticed yesterday that Olive has a slight chesty sound when you hold her up to your ear. One is sneezing as well, we think its Olive but will take them both to the vets this week just to make sure (last time we took two up they only charged us for one so fingers crossed!).

Love this thread... Love rats. They're great little things.

Having dogs makes it a no no for us.

Keep up the pics folks.

Our vets are very good to us. Phoned them yesterday to make an appointment and they didn’t have any. Explained the issue and the vet came in early to see them today so they didn’t have to wait until next week.

Olive and Opel got praise for their temperament and looks! Although Opel got told she’s a little fat. Just big boned!

Despite saying we wouldn’t get rescues again, a friend of a friend of my partner is rehoming two girls as they can’t give them the attention they need. We’re picking them up tomorrow.

Got to keep them separate for a couple of weeks before they can join Olive and Opel.

New ones have settled in nicely. Very different to Olive and Opel though. Not a fan of being held. Cracker is a bit skinny though so need to fatten her up.

Just found out the local horse shop does the substrate cheaper than the rat place we normally get it from and don't have to pay £10 postage!

However, have just spent £60 on a fking wheel for them.

Intros have gone swimmingly again. Never had a problem thankfully. Just moved them to the big cage with only a rope and a rope hammock in to see how they get on.

The other two despite being from pets at home are very friendly now. Happy to be held most the time. Looking forward to their new wheel turning up.

Where does everyone get their rat toys from? We need to get some new hammocks but I'm not happy at paying a fortune as they ruin them within a matter of days normally.

I may have made a mistake. We got them a wheel. It's recommended that females have at least a 14" one and males have a 16" one. Decided to get a 16" incase we get males in the future. It's fking huge!

So far they hate it. Bloody cost me £60 as well! They better like it ha.

In some good news they love the wheel! Constantly in it.

Bad news...we need to buy another one as we now have four boys along with the four girls. Not quite what I expected on a Saturday afternoon but hey ho!

Already have a cage spare (Cheese and Cracker came with a spare one). They are so more relaxed on you its unreal! One of them was falling asleep on my girlfriend the first time we held them.

We have named them, Toto, Lando, Hamilton (Hammy) and Seb.

Sad update…

Following a break up we need to rehome them frown. The four boys and two of the girls (I’m allowed to bring two back to my parents until I sort something out!). Olive and Opel are staying with me as I’ve bonded with them the most.

So if anyone wants some boys, let me know! Dorset\Somerset area. Two of the girls have possibly found somewhere.

(If this is against any PH rules sorry!).

Really sorry to hear that Losinggrip. Hope things work out. I've enjoyed seeing the pics and reading about your rats.

Good luck with the rehoming.
