Off to meet Borris on Saturday and Holly on Monday, both Irish Lurcher imports via the Norfolk Greyhound Rescue Charity ran by a couple who I have the utmost amazing respect for the dedication they put in to making rescues happen.

The dogs come vaccinated/neutered/pet passport/micro chipped; donation of £150 is asked although to get the dog here and sorted costs them more like £700.

Well things didnt go to plan with Alfie, he was lovely, very affectionate and very playful but we had a very near miss with him when he was aggressive towards one of the kids my wife looks after, if she hadnt been close by it could have been a disaster. Alfie was doing the normal greyhound trick of filling the whole rug up sleeping, the little girl tripped over his back leg and he properly went for her. We were heartbroken but we couldnt risk keeping him after that. If we didnt have other peoples children we could have coped and worked through the other issues we had with him (waking us to play at 4am every day, barking constantly if he was left on his own or even thought he was left on his own and an excess of attachment to my wife)
Hopefully the RGT can find him a child free home to go to, we are going to have a break for a few weeks then start the process again, we still desperately want to rehome another dog, we miss him badly

I am shocked, gutted and also angry to learn about this frown.

This is a vet I had in the past suggested to greyhound owners who were struggling to clear corns on their dogs feet. I hate that this is why he has been doing bit glad he has been caught.

Gog440, sorry it didn't work out with Alfie, it was the right thing to do though. (I may have been in hospital when you posted this) you will find he right one soon I am sure.

Well he's got a mystical cure for corns which he claims is superb. I've seen many mixed comments on the efficacy of it.

Looks like good old fashioned greed unfortunately and the cost of animal welfare frown, the money they were making from this scam wasn't small change, even for a top vet.

From what I have read he was getting £16 per innoculation
What is very strange about it all is he was not an expensive vet for the skills he had, some of the top trainers in the country would travel for hours to use him rather than anyine else, and he could have charged much more than he did.

I know, I discussed him on here in the past and recommended him to greyhound owners on here!

If you just jab a pup and squiggle a signature on half completed paperwork that will be £16 for 2 mins work. If they were doing the numbers it indicates that mounts up. I don't understand it either which is why I am so shocked.

Though I always felt his reluctance to share his treatments for corns with other vets uneccessary. People had to travel many many miles when they could have easier access had he been so inclined.

We reached out to him when we had our first diagnosis, but decided to stick with our local vet as what we were dealing with was not Greyhound specific.

Agree that his reputation as a greyhound was practically unrivalled.

When ever I visit this thread, I always re-visit the kennel web sites, but sadly our current lifestyle dictates that it is simply not possible frown

We still wanted another hound despite it not working out with Alfie, here is Sirius when we went to meet him at the kennels.
He has been with us for nearly 2 weeks now and has been almost perfect. One accident on the day we brought him home but has been clean and dry in the house, he has learnt his new name (his kennel name was Daz which we didnt fancy keeping) and has generally been a star, even if he does need to learn to stop trying to nick our food lol. I cant tell you how much happier and more confident we feel with him than we did with Alfie.

Time for a bump to this thread.
Sirius is still a star, so affectionate, he loves cuddling up to people on the sofa then if you cuddle him he gets all giddy and wants to play. Good bits are he has calmed down massively around other dogs and is lovely around everyone, the only down sides are he is still a bugger at stealing food (really the only thing he gets told off for) and when we have tried him off lead in an enclosed area he has absolutely no recall, he is much too interested in everything to pay attention to us.
