Update!

We've had a fairly busy summer with the kids ponies etc but my big news is that I bought an Event Horse two weeks ago!

I used to event but hadn't been cross country since 1998 until last weekend. This horse was offered to me as he wouldn't hack and most certainly didn't want to go out of the start box to go cross country at an event! He was an expensive horse 3 years ago but I got him for sweetie money.

His name is Rob (crap name, I know!) and this is him with me on Saturday:

He did a good dressage (scored 33 in the BE100 achieving two 8s), one fence down SJ and had a stop at a couple of jumps XC but didn't even threaten to nap at the start - he's been messed about with for the last 2 or 3 years (he's 10 years old) but I think he definitely has the ability. I reckon a winter of SJ and some XC schooling will have him back in form!

In other news, I'd forgotten how fit the rider needs to be and I'm still a bit sore and stiff today!

So come on, what's everyone else been up to with their ponies?

He looks lovely! Has he settled in with you quickly?

We havent done much with ours. Our Shetland did his first show a few months ago and came last so the mrs kind of lost the enthusiasm for showing, she wants to break him in to drive now.

The other 2 are just plodding round the field.

Yes, he's pretty chilled. He did nap once with me out hacking (pretty badly, stands right up!) but after a little 'discussion' he's been as good as gold. I just think the girl that had him gave him no idea of boundaries and he just took the piss.

Deal of the decade as far as I'm concerned!

Shame about the Shetland, I've never been much into showing but from what I can gather it's as much who you know as what you know in that game!

Driving would be a good shout, I reckon you could have loads of fun!

How long have you had Henry? He looks very much like a horse I bought quite some time ago called Harry who also hated being ridden (interestingly he was an angel when we tried him out but totally different when we got him home scratchchin) I didn't keep him very long as someone from another yard took a shine to him and bought him off me. I know he'd had her off nearly every time she rode him and he napped fiercely.

Well, our friend used to work on the racing yard where he was bred and trained, and when they decided to sell him she bought him, think he was aged 4 then. So she has known him all his life.

I must mention, he belongs to our friend but we look after him on free loan, so we dont have to pay out to have such a lovely horse.

I used to compete at HOYS back in the days when it was at Wembley! Showing my age now lol.

Never could get on with it at the NEC, felt a little 'cold' but then Im out of the horsey loop these days so probably the reason why.

I think I'm going to buy a donkey or some sort of small horse (Shetland type)

We have more than enough land and a stable going spare so I figured why not, not being a horsey person at all is there anything I should know before I take the plunge?

We have around 10 horses currently at our yard do donkeys get on well with horses??

A lot of horses don't like donkeys and donkeys can carry lungworm which is a problem for horses.

Shetlands can be little bds, and no matter what size you buy the vet bills will be the same size!

Ah in that case I may not bother, I was hoping to get a donkey and chuck it in the field with some of the calmer horses

I'll just stick to being scared of my sisters 4 haha

I was there for the week and had a fab time.

My homebred High Treason was 9th in the Large Riding Horse

frown

and one of the Team's ponies - Nynwood Fantasia - was Supreme Pony of the Year (a 4 year old pony with a 5 year old jockey!)

Now finding it very boring and depressing being back at work frown

Devastating for all involved, Stevey's Lad was placed in the Racehorse to Riding Horse of the Year class on Sunday morning.
