And bear in mind that anything that is coloured red, green, etc will have additives in. These often have a detrimental effect on a dog's behaviour and may bring out allergies.

Many people have behavioural issues with their dog and don't believe it can be the food that causes it. It very much can be.

OK I'm going to get killed again.
It's alright I'm getting used to it. But there is always another side to a coin.

Labs generally eat anything and usually do. They are noted for their "gannetry".
I did a quick straw poll at lunch today.(22 owners of 38 dogs, 9 of which were labs. I didn't tell them why.) Not one paid the slightest attention to food additives and suprisingly no two fed their dogs the same thing.
Diets varied from raw/frozen tripe to whatever was the cheapest supermarket brand whether tinned or dry.It was agreed that quantity increased when working.
I've just finished off a job lot of (out of date) Skinners large breed food. This is for 10kg cockers, with no ill effect.
The widow next door feeds her's Lidl's "dayglo" best and he's a little ste in her house. He has got her well trained. He's perfect here. I look after him in my house when she is away and I don't have to do anything.
I've rambled enough.
I am not trying to take anything away from the Mrs Grumpies of this world but I really honestly think that the baseline has got slightly skewed.

Many dogs do perfectly well fed on any old crap. Others don't. I'm just saying that if your dog has allergies, the squits or behavioural issues, then have a look at what he is being fed. Often - the link is never made by the owner and they go down the very expensive route of skin scrapings, etc, when a change of diet may do the job.

I don't really see what you are getting at and why you think every one is disagreeing with you. As I've already said everyone has their views on feeding. I do agree more with Mrs G though.

I don't know what your job is etc but in my line you get to see an awful lot of negatives with certain ingredients in dog foods which affect labs as well.

Your neighbours dog is fed a st food which probably explains it's behaviour!

Eta many dogs do ok on boy old food but when they don't it's time to review.

Just a tip for those that need to scoop up 'runny poo' - use a disposable plastic spoon with the 'poop' bag.

Mrs Grumpy, I have the upmost respect for what you do. You are probably a better "man" than me. I could have a go at re-training problem dogs but possibly/probably not have the patience required.I don't doubt there are some dogs with some intolerence or other. I hope you would agree that they are a minority and behavioural issues are much more linked to human treatment.

bexVN The little ste in question gets the same ste food in my house. He's a happy healthy 13 year old.

As I've said I'm not a troll and I don't want to upset this forum. I just want to make fellow members aware that owning a dog need not be so "complex".

No, I'm not setting up in business.

I have never thought you are a troll and am not upset at your posts smile

I would imagine the evidence that both Bex and I see is skewed. Bex sees dogs with medical issues and I see dogs with behavioural issues. Both are often linked to being fed crap. In any case, it is one of the easiest things to rule out by changing the food smile

I dont see any problem with the tins. My Basset has a tin a day mixed in with Pedigree complete and he loves it.
If your dog does well on them with good skin, good digestion, teeth, weight etc then all good. However tinned food has dubious ingredients, contains 80% water and sticks to teeth causing increase speed of dental disease and many dogs it's too rich for them.

Nobody will ever agree on a correct diet. I have my opinions however when I assess a dog I look at the above before I say if what they are feeding is right or not.
+!
