There are measurements that are laid down in order to deem whether a dog is 'type' or not. The law says it doesn't matter about the dog's temperament nor actual breeding. If it can be deemed as 'type', then it is

Ah i got ya!
Seeing as there are currently only 4 breeds on the DDA, what criteria does a dog have to meet to be considered a dangerous dog?
Looking at the Fila Brasileiro which is on the list, is looks like an overgrown puppy, looks as soft as you like, and i think there are far more agressive 'looking' dogs that are able to be bought/bred.
So how does a breed get on the DDA? Surely if a dog is brought up with responsible owners, regardless of the breed then it should be ok?

I'm sure that is true but we all know there are some non-responsible owners out there who are looking for a trophy dog or some kind of status symbol, should they really be allowed to own an animal that is physically capable and easily trainable to become a dangerous weapon? I know that the vast majority of the "fighting" breeds of dog are the softest ones around but there are some breeds that are so temperamentally biased towards aggression and able to do severe damage (nobody cares about a vicious yorkie!) that they perhaps shouldn't be allowed to be kept.
I await the cries of "it's the owners and not the dogs", and I agree that it is but the government are not going to licence all dog owners or make them sit a suitability test - it just isn't going to happen so until someone comes up with a way of managing the owners, banning certain breeds of dog is all we have.
With all the choice out there of different breeds why would anyone feel the need to go for one of the ones that is banned?
Yep. Have you seen this? http://ctechwebhosting.co.uk/savelennox/wordpress/...
