All advice and opinions welcome.

Trying to think of soemthing a bit different but no idea if Venice will be a ghost town, or crowded and mega-expensive at that time. smile

Cannot comment on New Year's Eve per se, but my sister just came back from Venice and told me it is amazingly stupidly expensive now. £10 for a Toblerone, £50 for a fish in a restaurant (each) plus vegetables or salad.

The times I've been in Venice it it was not lively at night, no real nightlife, it was a ghost town by midnight. It will be cold and probably wet on NYE, I would avoid and choose somewhere more lively.

This.
I went in December many moons ago. And the place is very, very quiet at night. Fair enough it might be more lively on NYE, but it is also very expensive too. And, from memory there wasn't too many watering holes either.
It smells like an open sewer too, which I supose it effecively is!

Totally agree with the above. Venice is dead at night which really surprised us and we found the food on offer very mediocre. What about Rome?

Another vote against...what about Munich? Somewhere with a bit more of a party atmosphere.

Went to Venice for NYE three years ago. St Marks Square was heaving. Many thousands of people.

Not as good as being on a boat on Sydney Harbour NYE though.
