Stay overnight in Williams and that will give you more time. Motels are cheap.
Exactly what we did. Stayed in the Red Garter in Williams (very friendly owner) which is a former brothel.

The town is like the place in the first 'Cars' film being on the old Route 66.

I've dont the Heli to Grand, expensive and short and I have driven to Brice Canyon in a Mustang. The trip to Brice is long but the actual canyon is much better and there are interesting places to stop/stay on the way.

I did the chopper trip...thought it was great. The scenery from the air on the way there and back is actually pretty breathtaking.....we landed in the canyon and had lunch etc. I'd definitely recommend it as I can't imagine the views from the drive are anywhere near as good. We did have a few people feel sick though as we'd all been out the night before biggrin

Luckily for me I was there on an offsite so didn't have to pay.

We did this a couple of years ago, if you're booking the car while you're there the car rental place in Bally's on the strip deal in Fords (I think it was Hertz)so are the best bet for getting a Mustang rather than a 'similar'. Ours was brand new, the bloke at the desk said although he couldn't 'guarantee' a mustang he could more than any other rental company. It cost us about $100 for 24 hours, so we picked it up fairly early, went out and had a look around the Hoover Dam (which was excellent), than headed to the West Rim. It probably isn't as good as the rest of the canyon, and did feel a bit of a rip-off, but the views were still immense. I would say though, that although it looks a lot nearer on the map than the South rim, it takes ages to get to because the road is so st. If we went again I reckon we could do the extra distance to the South rim in the same if not less time. We were back in Vegas by about 10pm and took the car back the next morning, after driving out to the gun store and back!

One more thing, fill up with petrol whenever you can, and take plenty of water with you. The heat in the desert is unbelievable, we even put the roof up eventually!
