Where to go for Xmas and NY? Australasia & Pacific Islands

As above really - currently in NZ but fancy going somewhere else for NY and Xmas. Always wanted to visit Fiji/Samoa, and flights are pretty cheap, but I want somewhere which will party as well. If I could justify the expense then I would go to Bali or Thailand, but at about a grand for return flights I'll give that a miss! Got from London to Auckland for 800 return, so certainly not paying 1000 to go half the distance!

Done Sydney dont really fancy doing it again. Budget, um a grand or so all in?

Anyone done Xmas and NYE on the pacific islands? If so, where? Or any suggestions as to where might be busy with drunk 18 year old backpackers...
