Right there's 8 of us planning a stag weekend to Vegas.

We have tried all the flight comparison websites but we are struggling to drop the price to a level we are comfortable with. Therefore I would request the help of fellow PH's to source the cheapest flights to Las Vegas.

Departure airport doesn't matter as long as its in the UK, ideally we would want to fly out on the 23rd May 2012 and back on the 28th, or as long as its 5 days and we are there for Friday, Saturday & Sunday night.

Cheapest Direct we got is £641 and cheapest indirect is £520, both from London (Gatwick I think).

PH Beer tokens for the cheapest direct & indirect flights smile

It's a few years since we went, but that seems cheap to me. I doubt you'll get much better

We went in 2010 and we flew direct for a fraction over £500, we done the trip for less than £640. If I could get the direct flight prices down to about £550 or less It would make the trip!!

Just seeing if there's anyone in the know! smile

With the greatest of respect, you're haggling over less than £100 which on a trip to Vegas is trival, so just get it booked and have some fun!!!

I know that a lot of people on here recommend Skyscanner.net so you may want to try them, although I haven't personally used them

If you want really cheap and dirty, maybe try a charter flight holiday?

Have you decided where you'd like to stay or not?

I got a cracking deal booking both flight and hotel at the same time through DialAFlight. For us, it worked out at £615 per head for indirect flights with Delta (free beer smile) and 5 nights in the MGM Grand, two men to a room - which in Vegas means a double each.

That's the route I'd go down - use Expedia as that will give you a rough feel for prices.

(Oh and we went in May..but about a week earlier than that - out on a Wednesday - flew back Monday. Check carefully around that time as a week earlier to your dates and you may find the prices drop as there is a switch between "seasons" around then!)

ETA: Looking on Expedia (admittedly based on 6) but the prices for your times, for flights plus hotel are running at about £710 per head for something like the MGM Grand, or a little cheaper (£640) for the Monte Carlo. Both hotels are at the South end of the strip, but in a much safer area, closer to where all the clubs are. Don't be tempted by bargains on offer at The Stratosphere. It is MILES away from the good parts of the Strip!

>£641 and cheapest indirect is £520

You'll spend most of the £120 saving on beer and food while kicking your heels waiting for your connecting flight.

As stated, if you're trying to save the odd £100 on a trip to Vegas you may be goingto the wrong place, You can drop £100 in 15 minutes on the tables. The slots take slightly longer.

By the way, have you researched how much you'll need to set by for tips?

The tips, the tips - did my bloody head in to start with. (Loved the cab driver touch screen credit card payment thingy - had different options for a tip - top one was 40% - how we laughed.....)

It's annoying at first but you soon get used to it!

Be especially wary as a large group - if you eat together you'll be over the "6" number which is the magic mark for compulsary gratuity of 15% (we went as a six and had some BIG numbers on meals!!).

Believe me I know £100 is trivial when it comes to Vegas, the boys want to do it for as cheap as possible though. Just because its an expensive place to go, doesn't mean you cant try to cut all the excess cost out before you go.

I was trying to get the price down as low as possible as the two main people (stag & best man) wanted to save money by going indirect, I explained all the reasons given here why it was a bad idea, but they had blinkered vision. However, we are now at a point where we all agree to go direct (thank god).

Through a friend I have now got a direct flight for £605, so thats £50 per head off the same flight (Virgin). Times that by 8 and its £400, there's the airport transfer (this end) paid for!! If your in a position to turn your nose up at £50 then lucky you!! smile

We did look at a package, we found the Riviera for £660 direct, but reading the reviews the Riviera is hell on earth. The stag has expressed his desire to stay in suites at the Jet, priced at £159 each for 5 nights, however, at the moment we are swaying towards suites in the main MGM for £129!

I will check out expedia for some deals!! Thanks for all the advice guys!

yes

We stayed in the Excalibur last time which is across the road, pretty crap by Vegas standards but had a massive games floor, great pool atmosphere, great location, clean enough rooms & plenty of places to eat within including Pizza Hut, McDonalds, Chinese & Mexican! All you need for a stag do!

This time we wanted to go "a little" upmarket hehe

Its one hell of a place for a stag do thats for sure!! The only place I have drank for 24 hours, slept for six and woke to a breakfast of Jaeger and Grey Goose and not complained!!

I've just done a weekend in Vegas. Be ready to spend some money!

A few notes for you...

Remember your flight costs will include £340ish of fees, taxes, surcharges. Vegas flights do seem to carry a premium price compared to say LA.

If you go on a US airline they may not provide alcohol free, Virgin and BA do.

Although we had pre-booked and paid for our hotel there was still a 'Resort Fee' added to the bill, $22 per night, I did object but could not be bothered to argue as it was only two nights.

Mini bar prices are a rip off, $8 for a beer. I was in the Hard Rock and they had sensors under the bottles, even if you moved an item it would register on your bill, be warned! Buy your beer/booze from a local store, problem is the room fridge is full of mini bar items which you cannot move so get ice to keep your beers cool.

Be ready to spend on alcohol, in our hotel beers were $6, spirits $10. Happy hour 2 for 1 did not kick in until midnight. It's 'free' if your gambling. Be ready to tip a few $ every time you buy a round, it's expected. A round for four of us was coming in at $40 with a tip.

Food is not 'cheap' in the hotels, breakfast cost me £25, gone are the days of the $3.99 breakfast, Vegas prices have gone up since I was there 5 years ago.

Everyone has their hand out for a tip, so make sure you have lots of $1 bills, although you'll find they come conveniently in any change given.

Have a blast and try not to live up to the British Stag reputation, I witnessed two English lads being unceremoniously dumped out of the hotel for being too wasted.

Here's how your daily tips bill will add up in LV.

1. $1 per drink in a bar
2. $1 per drink to your cocktail waitress
3. $10 for the maitre d of any cabaret show
4. $1 per bag for bell hop
5. 10 per cent of any table wins to the croupier
6. $5 to the hotel concierge for any unusual requests
7. 15 per cent restaurant bill
8. $1 per coat left with hat check girl
9. $5 per day for room maid
10.$5 for tour guide
11. 10 per cent of every taxi fare
12. $5 every time you valet park (drop off AND collect)
12. $2-$5 when the hotel staff get you a cab (depending on how many bags they help you with).

This is very comprehensive. However, I've commented below for approach the more fiscally minded might take...

1. $1 per drink in a bar - stanadard, no getting around this. Alternatively, if you are drinking in one place for a long period of time, take a tab and put 10% on at the end. Usually this will be cheaper.
2. $1 per drink to your cocktail waitress - fair enough, easy enough on the tables - bills or chips.
3. $10 for the maitre d of any cabaret show - we didn't bother?
4. $1 per bag for bell hop - carry your own - you're on a stag do not a honeymoon, plus 5 days kit won't weight that much!
5. 10 per cent of any table wins to the croupier again, I didn't see this ANYWHERE. Generally, if somebody had a good run, they might slip the croupier $5-$20, but nowhere near 10%
6. $5 to the hotel concierge for any unusual requests fair enough but google is your friend....
7. 15 per cent restaurant bill - unavoidable
8. $1 per coat left with hat check girl - coat? in May?
9. $5 per day for room maid there's a safe, make sure all your stuff is in it and leave her $5 on the last day if you feel like it, not like you'll be spending much time in there!
10.$5 for tour guide fair
11. 10 per cent of every taxi fare fair
12. $5 every time you valet park (drop off AND collect) park yourself, the garage is just as close - or just don't get a car and cab/walk everywhere
12. $2-$5 when the hotel staff get you a cab (depending on how many bags they help you with). if it's a limo yes, if not - just crack on with it yourself

I know the rules above are probably correct, but they're more relevant to an American person who is accustomed to the culture of tipping for everything. I always just thought twice when somebody offered to help me do something - do I really need them to do that for me? Because, yes, they will always be expecting something back and will stand there waiting for you to tip them...which can be massively awkward. Particularly on arrival when you might not have so much change!!!
