Heading to france with a couple of mates at the weekend for a birthday. Bit last minute i know, but we're driving over and don't won't to head too far away from Calais, maybe an hour or two tops. No real plans as to what we want to do really, any ideas on an interesting town? I wouldn't mind taking in some war related spots while we're there, but it's not essential!

I went to a place called Le Touquet and Etaples around 97 or 98. I enjoyed it!

Another vote for Le Touquet, the French call it the Monaco of the North, UK likens it to Brighton hehe

Decent enough place.

If you decide on Le Touquet and you have time to play with to get there/back, I recommend the coast road (D940) rather than the motorway for all/some of it, good road that goes through some really nice countryside and villages and easy to get onto from the A16 at Calais.

Chalons-en-Champagne. Visit 'unknown' champagne houses and buy for Christmas/New Year
