Any recommendations for a good value hotel in Miami for a weekend? Needs to have plenty nearby to walk to!

Thanks

I've looked into this one below for a couple of nights in July. It gets pretty good reviews V's $$'s & has free breakfast & parking but may be too far away from the Beach area for you ($2 bus ride though) Might be a good back up if you can't find anything good value closer to where you want to be.

Are you looking to stay Downtown or at South Beach?

Is South Beach then I could recommend the Lowes - excellent location with loads of stuff around.

No idea biggrin

We are in St Martin before the weekend, and as we have to transit somewhere, we decided on Miami - the wife is a big CSI fan so she wants to see some of the city.

If you have a choice then stay at south beach- especially if first time.

So much to do and see - you will wish you could stay longer.

Also you can go to the spot where the Scarface chainsaw scene was filmed...

I've stayed in the Park Central and the Essex on South Beach both original Tropical Deco hotels and nice, Park Central slightly better than the Essex. No idea about price though.

I was there in October and would agree with staying in south beach rather than downtown, go and see Miami Heat play if you can. Even if you're not a basketball fan it is an amazing experience.

+1 for Lowes!

I've booked quite a few hotels in Miami using:

www.hotwire.com

Always found them great.

What's your budget Puggit ? (I'm looking at approx £100 a night as we will also be paying for a place in Orlando - heading down for 3 or 4 days to visit the Keys)

Last time we booked through hotwire we stayed here....

If I remember it was about £70/night for a room.

Thanks all - decided to stay on in St Martin instead. Mrs Puggit will have to enjoy the view in/out of Miami airport enroute!

As the company is putting us up in the Dutch side, we've decided to taste the French side (literally, I hear the food is good!) for a couple of extra nights.

Grand Case, St. Maarten, is recognised as the gourmet capital of the Caribbean. Food can be expensive and French cuisine. Wife and I holidayed there several years ago, staying at the Grand Case Beach Club. I have a schedule of restaurants in St. Martin/St. Maarten we used if you're interested.

Yes please - literally just confirmed our reservation in Grand Case on the phone!

We're staying in a little boutique place. Very quaint, the owner barely speaks English. I do speak French, but I couldn't be arsed wink

See here:

Restaurant Location Phone

Brasserie des Iles Grand Case 878746
Captain Oliver's Oysterpond 874826
Chez Martine Grand Case 875159
Le Grain De Sel French Cul de Sac 293546
Le Montmartre Atlantic Casino 53939
Le Taitu French Cul de Sac 874323
L'Escapade Grand Case 877504
L'Hibiscus Grand Case 291791
Du Soleil Grand Case 879232

Note that it's been a few years since we went to St. Martin. Any restaurant at Grand Case is good, and expensive! Captain Oliver's is good for lunch being waterside in a marina, I recall.

Also, for a bit of fun you must go to the Sunst Bar by the sea at the end of the main runway of the airport. Go late afternoon, join the crowd, and you can get blown away by the jets, literally!

Stayed in the Chelsea two years ago, it was OK, small boutique hotel. Stopover en route to Nevis. But I didn't like Miami apart from some nice architecture and I wouldn't return out of choice.

Thanks for that...

We are staying in the hotel next to runway beach to start with - so there'll be plenty of fun to be had there.

Sorry I didn't mean to sound negative, Miami just wasn't our sort of place, but the hotel was nice. Runway hotel sounds interesting! I bitterly regret watching a YouTube vid of how planes land on St Kitts *yikes* I am not a happy flier so it scared the living daylights out of me.
