You say he doesn't check his emails very often, but did he check his emails and was there an email sent?

Funny how everyone here moans about the Nanny State interfering and then we get a thread where someone lost the deposit on their holiday because they didn't take responsibility for paying for it on time.

I've got two holidays booked this summer and I know when I need to pay for them. A reminder from the company will be nice (I'm sure they'd actually much rather I paid in full than take the part payment deposit and possibly not be able to fill the slot), but it's my responsibilty.

As for "Get Watchdog involved" - What for? My immediate reaction on seeing that was two words and the second one was off...

M.

PS To the OP - I'd suggest your mate contacts the company, explains the problem and says he'd like to book a replacement holiday with then and ask them to use his already paid deposit. Otherwise, book with another company (Not in the same group...) and accept it was an expensive lesson learnt.

First Choice would not deliberately rip people off. They may have rules that may sound harsh but if people are made aware of everything and sign up that`s it.I have a feeling we don't know the full story as its coming from a third party.I booked a holiday with First Choice online, found everything easy to understand, first class back up emails, final balance reminder etc, everything went like clockwork.I even got a few quid back as I made a complaint about the outward flight.

I didn't see the bit about them keeping the balance - now that is out of order... still should have paid on time though eh

Ditto

I thought they provided excellent service. Going again with them hopefully this year.
