I quite like Geo caching. It's a good way to get out on the coast paths and see the best of Cornwall. They're often off the beaten track too, so avoids the busier spots.

And there's always the usual touristy type places. Eden, St Michaels mount, Fowey, St Ives.

Porthleven's nice and just around the corner from the Lizard. You can park next to the boating lake in Helton and walk through penrose then round to porthleven.

Further up The south coast Polperro is really nice. I went there for the first time a few weeks back and really enjoyed it.

The cheesewring on Bodmin moor's an enjoyable walk from Minions.

Bloody good call thumbup

Not tried that, would need a recommendations for another gadget though (mrs S will be delighted)

Not been to the Cheese thingy either, so that's going on the list.

A smart phone with gps is ideal. Me and the misses have only done a couple of geo cache walks so far but both to places we wouldn't have otherwise gone, and both had great views and not many people!

Looe is worth a visit if you are in that part of South Cornwall and Trawlers on the Quay is a superb restaurant on the quay side (funny that biggrin ) just along from the fish market.

As above Polperro is also a nice traditional Cornish fishing village with a couple of nice places to eat and just along the road from Polperro is Talland Bay which is a nice secluded bay with a small cafe that serves excellent crab sandwiches and home made cakes etc.

Trebah Gardens in Mawnan Smith are spectular and right on the Helford River which in my opinion is one of the most beautiful areas in Cornwall. After there you can nip just down the road to Helford Passage and have a drink in The Ferry Boat Inn and watch the boats go by, then have a short wander to Bar Beach, take in the scenery or you can hire boats by the hour and explore the river.

Bar Beach.

The Lizard itself! take a walk from the car park in the village past the pasty shop and down the hill, follow the signs for the lifeboat station that take you to the cliffs, take a look at the new lifeboat station, fab design, and if someone os there go down the (many) steps and have a look at the new Tamar class lifeboat, awesome bit of kit.

Then follow the cliff walk round the headland, past Housel bay and all the interesting stuff, Lloyds station etc and reach the lighthouse, maybe take a look around that for a while then onwards to the cafe's on the point where you can try and spot the Cornish Choughs (recently returned after years away and the bird of Cornwall) you can see the old lifeboat station here and then onwards towards Kynance Cove, there are cut backs along here that take you back to the car park ar you can walkt to the cove and then back along the road.

When I am down in Cornwall, this is my best day.

Otherwise, anywhere on the Helford passage. go to Falmouth park at the station and go to the old harbour and hire one of the little cabin cruisers and bob over to the Fal and go see the king Harry ferry or the big ships mothballed up there or play around in the Carrick roads, those little boats are great fun and you see things froma whole new angle.

If it is rough the Porthleven is a must, the waves breaking on the outer harbour is just awesome, it can show just how powerful the sea is.

Avoid Lands end.

This!
Polperro is good, nice walk through the village to the harbour, very good alse and good pub grub at The Blue Peter.

Looe is fun but very busy and a bit touristy.

Now, Talland bay is my favorite place in the world! Cracking rock pools, quiet spots and nice walking especially the walk to polperro! Good fishing for makerel and bass too along with pollock!

Spent a nuber of years visiting talland bay woth my family and went again about 4yrs ago and hasnt changed one bit.

Great suggestion folks, keep 'em coming.

Never been on the Helford or the Fal, so a boat trip is on the list.

Anyone got a recommendation for boat hire on the Fal? There a couple I've short-listed so further hits would be useful.

Any tips for beach fishing around the peninsular also welcome.

We stayed in Helston a few times a few years ago so will hopefully walk to the Loe Bar & boat fishing from Porthleven is also on the list.

Funnily enough, no, so that is also on the list.

Does anyone know if the beaches between Cadgwith & Coverack are accessible from the coast path? From Google maps, some look like they are.

A walk along the coast from Porthleven to Loe bar and then around the Loe itself is a nice easy walk and takes two or three hours.

If you're interested in gardens the gardens at Trevarno are pretty cool.....lots of huge tropical plants that I doubt you'll see anywhere else in the UK. All planted a hundred years ago or so.

If anyone if interested we stayed in a great cottage near Helston....done to a very high standard. Husband and wife who had gone a bit OTT with it. Good place to stay as you can get to either coast relatively easily but in the middle of nowhere.

A few years ago, we stayed in an old converted milking parlour. We walked to Trevano from there (I think it was that one - if that's the place where they make a lot of perfumes, soaps & creams from their plants).

Trevano & Trebar (which I haven't been to but the mrs has), will most likely be on the list.

You don't need anything more for the Fal/Docks etc, you can go out as far as Black Rock in the roads and as far up as Truro on the Fal with good tides.

Would recommend cagdwith itself, a pretty little fishing village with a very authentic feel. We always make a point of visiting when at the lizard.

This is the place we stayed in http://www.tregadjack.co.uk/

It's literally a a 10 min walk to Trevarno (yes I think they did make a load of smelly stuff) out of the back door past a railway some local enthusiasts are trying to get going again and you're there.

Get yourself down the Roseland peninsula too; it's absolutely stunning. Any boat trip on a sunny day up the Fal river is a must do, even if it's just the little ferry service.

Just off the Lizard, you've got the original Marconi site, which is a nice piece of history and an absolutely amazing beach. Goonhillie satellite listening station is also in that neck of the woods.
