Turkey Kalkan - Recommendations
Discussion
Tim, thanks for the links. I just need to convince my wife that a couple of days walking around is what she wants to do now!
Graham, we are flying with Monarch from Luton to Dalaman. I think we ended up booking the hotel and airport transfer through Thomas Cook. We've never bothered hiring a car in Turkey, as we would only use it a couple of days, and the public transport is efficient and cheap.
We ended up booking the various things seperately as it worked out cheaper and more suitable for our needs than a complete package with someone like Thomas Cook. I think it worked out as £660 in total for flights, transfers and hotels - closer to £800 if we booked the flight with TC. With Monarch we also got more luggage allowance, and could prebook seats on the plane. Also, I think Luton was their cheapest option, which is handy as it is closest to home!

By the way, I noticed you were asking about daytime flight earlier in the topic. I'm not sure about daytime arrivals, but we booked our flight for a 15.30 departure, which should get to Dalaman at 21.30. The last two times we have been to Turkey we've got a 22.00 flight which meant arriving at the hotel at about 05.30! So something to bear in mind! With that in mind, how is Kalkan for late night eating/drinking, or should we settle for food on the plane?

Kalkan is ok for most restaurants serving food up to midnight..if you ask nicely. The Pide house is open until around 1.00 amWith that in mind, how is Kalkan for late night eating/drinking, or should we settle for food on the plane?

We live near Cirencester so main options are Bristol, Cardiff, Brum, E Mids, Heathrow, Luton, Gatwick, Stanstead, I guess...
Dont forget easyjet fly direct for a cheap flight from Gatwick.Soooo...do I book what I know now (via Monarch) or wait until the big orange one shows it's hand!!??
Decisions, decisions
After a crappy day at work, I took the plunge and booked the Likya for a week early October.
Flights out of Gatwick, sensible times 07.35 away arriving 13.00ish, arriving back at 17.00 a week later.
Just got to hope that the weather (and pool) remain warm this late in the season, otherwise I will be in for another telling off from the other half for not booking Egypt again!
Any further suggestions for Restaurants / bars / things to do of an evening most welcome.

I think you will struggle to have a bad meal in Kalkan! Went for my 1st time this year and it was great everywhere!
Only place names i can remember are the Fish Terrace (They do live music on some nights, need to book in advance) and we also had some great Meze at a place called Pisces where they really looked after us.

Our update...
I waited and booked with Easy Jet in the end - and saved over £350 by doing it compared to the next best alternative (which was from Manchester).
We are flying from Bristol at 7.50 in the morning which is not too shabby and return mid afternoon-ish, which again, suits us
Also booked my car through Dalaman Cars - who emailed me to advise that the prices were 2012 so will probably go....DOWN !! ...for 2013 so they will let me know the price when the new price list comes out
Have also booked a guesthouse near the airport with 8 days parking and transfers (plus a bonus of a lift to and from the local pub near the guesthouse the night before we fly)
All sorted
