Next summer (2013) - villa required
Discussion
Hi folks
Dead early I know but we've just started thinking about summer 2013
Our youngest sits his GCSE's next summer so will finish school really early next year (about this time). I can get away from work early in July so we are looking to rent somewhere on the Continent first/second week in July-ish 2013 for a week.
Criteria for us are
- Road access as we will need a hire car
- Private pool
- Air Con
- Has to have 2 bathrooms (so we don't have to share with the lad )
- Minimum 2 bedrooms obviously
- BBQ
- Walking distance to a taverna/restauramt/bar with food. NB Mrs O has some mobility isues so looking at 5-10 mins max and not too hilly!
- Not too fussed either way if its near the sea!
Happy to look at all hot European destinations (preferably Greece/Spain/Italy)as long as we can get cheap-ish flights there.
I know that this opens up a huge potential from the PH massive however there are just so many to choose from that some personal recommendations would be welcome.
TIA folks
Graham

Flight prices go up in the summer holidays. Vueling are the exception and have just started flying from cardiff but not sure where else they fly from and they generally fly to Barcelona or Mallorca though some of the times are iffy.
As for villas, the world is your oyster. I always recommend Mallorca and Cala Egos as it has everything there and a good selection of villas and is fairly flat with easy access to the beaches and a regular land train into Cala d'Or but plenty of restuarants nearby. Villa hire can be expensive though but it's worth it as Mallorca has so much to see. We stayed at a little complex called Marina D'Or III which has apartments split into 2 bed downstairs and a one-bed flat upstairs which can be rented together so you get privacy. The communal pools are at the end of the little garden so ideal and the secure contained car park behind that. I know you said private pool but these pools are just for the dozen apartments and weren't crowded.
Alternatively, villas around Cala d'Or marina have close access to the restaurants there.
A lot of people go up north to Pollensa but I haven't stayed there myself.
Spain has a massive selection though the Costa Blanca has undoubtedly got the most villas to choose from. Places like Moraira and Javea and Denia are popular but many of the villas are more peripheral to the towns. Calpe may be worth looking at as they have villas along the coast. The trouble with many villas is they tend to be on hillside developments or away from the main drags.
The Canary Islands are another option. Mor expensive flights but often cheaper villas. Somewhere like Playa Blanca on Lanzarote is fair flat and has a long promenade with plenty of restaurants but again, watch the cheaper villas which can be a good walk from the sea front.

Hi Oblio (fellow AM driver),
Have a quick peek at www.villayar.com there are two Pheaders there this year.2012 season.
Prices for next year are the same. Private pool, has 4 bathrooms and seems ideal.
Happy for you to contact me if I can assist, also with other advice if needed.
Regards

Hi Oblio
Have a look in my profile for our property links (Italy)
Or type in Italia Amato into Facebook and our Facebook page will come up and you can see more there under the photo section.
This interests me. But when I click the link I just get a holding page. Don't use Faceache so can't check there.Have a look in my profile for our property links (Italy)

Blimey £1000 for a villa booked in advance (for a group of you) for the best and busiest week in the year.. straight after kids exams, you will really struggle to get anything sadly. You may get somethiing very last minute but you risk not getting anything atall.Looking for places around £1k for the week
Cheers though
Do you need help on Hotels?..also try holidayrentals and ownersdirect, you may get something but watch out for plastic chairs and limited aircon.. There are some hotels that may circa £70 night for July 2013 that are decent but that still puts you up to £1400 for 2 rooms.
Regards

Paul - I have never ever had a problem before in booking a place for the 3 of us some 6-9-12 months in advance and ended up with some pretty decent places. The thing is for the extra £1k that some places charge I don't think we get an extra £1k of pleasure out of them. The reality is that we go sightseeing, use the pool, use the BBQ and sleep. We don't mind basic, clean places with A/C but don't need infinity pools etc. We'd prefer t spend the extra on car upgrade; sight seeing; meals out etc. Just suits us that's all. Your place is v v nice btw and if I was planning on spending £2k I would give you a shout
Not interested in hotels ta...Mrs O and I have 2 weeks of those booked when we do our annual road trip
