We are driving from Zebrugge to Geneva and into the Iake area around Lausanne.

The wife is keen to take the dog. Anyone done similar with a few nice hotels en route that take pets? Also any other advice welcome. Of course need to ring the ferry company to check best way to cross over. Dog is a labrador.

Thanks

Just did all this research. Chunnel instead of ferry as less hassle, but will charge you £30 extra...gits.

Dog friendly hotels are very hard to find for any decent ones frown We just rented places from owners instead.

Novotels will take dogs for a small fee. Not exactly super-luxe but do the job and, let's face it, if it was a really nice hotel it wouldn't take the fur-shedding parasite magnets that we love to have as pets.

Tunnel or ferry will be fine - for the ferry the dog just stays in the car - no big deal on a 90 minute crossing.

I take it you've got the pet passport all sorted?

Also remember your dog must be seen by a vet whilst in Europe, 24hrs before you return to UK.

Thanks guys,
Yes going to see the vet and get a pet passport.

Will go via the chunnel then, although the hull zebrugge ferry easier.

Novotel.. Mmm i was thinking more relais chateaux, afterall a lot of those always seem to have dogs when you arrive!

Just googled, thanks, looks ideal, will be in touch when route sorted.

Looks pretty close to the designated route plan down. To Basel.( we often do france but the german motorways are quicker and cheaper)

I hope he's already had his rabies shot, otherwise I doubt he will be coming with you this summer - afaik, it takes 6 months before they know whether it has taken effect, and they don't issue the passport until he has a positive blood test showing rabies antibodies in his system.
Plot your route on viamichelin, and use their hotel search facility to find the kind of hotel you want en route, but I think you'll find posh hotels are more tolerant of lap dogs than gun dogs. Good luck.
