Bangkok is MENTAL, imo it would be crazy to go for a cheapo place here, we were lucky enough to stay at the Lebua right near the top so the view was awesome, the room and the hotel was just unreal, even by Thai standards! \
Totally over-rated place IMO, carried by it's rooftop bar (expensive and pretentious) There are hotels in Bangkok that make Lebua look like a 3 star establishment. Try the Siam Kempinski, Sukhothai or Peninsula - streets ahead in service and luxury.

I will agree with you about the rooftop bar, but as for service and luxery, well anyone who has been to Thailand will realise that 'service' seems to be 2nd nature to them BUT this place was just above and beyond another other place we went to, HOWEVER like I said we did stay in a club suite right near the top which is accessed via the lift for the rooftop bar, where as the 'normal' rooms has tichty crappy looking lifts, the use of the club suite and seperate areas for breaky etc. I have heard it is almost like 2 sepertae hotels!

possibly my fav moment was grabbing a late snack from the food cart across the road, walking into the hotel, hot, smelly and hardly what you would call smart, and having all the dressed up nonces being moved aside so I could get in the lift and select my floor before they got in to go to the rooftop bar, their faces were priceless hehe

on top of that the breakfasts were GORGEOUS, room was lovley and when we arrived we just sat looking over the balcony for an hour admireing the view. Now compared to say Rockys Boutique where we stayed in Samui, which is much higher rated, I thought the food and service there was awful! SO many things wrong with that hotel but I think because people go there to get married they all have a good time and rave about the hotel, I would NEVER go back there and urge anyone else not to for so many reasons. So just goes to show I guess people can have very different experiences at the same hotel.

still no sign of OP, maybe the ladyboys have had him?

While i love the beaches, food, hospitality, and standards of hotels and service it is my humble opinion that Patong and Chaweng are hell holes. Beware of the bars with free drinks and the jet-ski scammers. The Land of Smiles is not always what it seems.

Just common sense, I got my jet ski from the same guy everyday, he was calling me and my wife mama and papa after 2 weekshehe they only rip off people that try and get everything on the cheap, try that and you will be amazed how many new scratches he finds on your jet ski when you bring it back. Become a regular customer with anyone over there and you might find you start to pay the same cheap price as the locals after a few days
