Specific Florida Gulf Coast Help
Discussion
Florida seems popular on here!
Sorry to add another thread but the search is still down.
We're heading to Florida this year from the 1st of Sep for a fly drive.
Arrive, 7 nights booked in Orlando for the theme park stuff.
5 somewhere on the Gulf Coast.
3 nights booked in Miami, fly home.
It's the middle Gulf Coast bit that we're struggling with - ideally we're looking for a villa not a hotel, to use as a base to explore beaches and small towns/national parks.
Sarasota, Sanibel/Captiva Island, Fort Myers are all places we've looked at but not sure where to commit to! We will definitely stop in at Naples on the way to Miami but don't think that we want to spend 5 nights there.
Any ideas or suggestions for anywhere on the coast would save us wearing google maps out!

My wife, our 2 year old at the time, and I did something similar back in 2009. 7 days in Orlando, followed by a tour of the gulf coast for 5 days or so, then back to Orlando for the remainder. Sorry to add another thread but the search is still down.

We spent two nights in Tampa, 1 night in Sarassota and then two nights in Naples. We booked the accomadation on line whilst we were over there on our travels. It kept the cost down, and also allowed for alot of flexibility.
Couldn't really fault any of the places we stayed in whilst on the road, and we would have happily have stayed in Naples for longer. We had a Dodge Challenger for our travels which also helped.
We have a villa in kissimmee and following the theme parks we stay on the Gulf Coast at Rotonda, near Port Charlotte. Ideal place to chill out, great beach at Englewood.
We use one of the following villas - www.rotondavilla.com owned by friends of ours.
