Loads to do in the surrounding areas, there are Castles at Pendennis and St Mawes, lots of great beaches for rockpooling nearby, and loads of paths to walk or cycle. The seal sanctuary at Gweek is great for kids. You can hire a boat and explore the river, perhaps try and catch some Mackerel for your dinner. Also a trip to the Helford river is really worthwhile as it's stunning.

Ferry across to st mawes makes for a nice day out.

Ships and castles swimming pool is good for the kids, harbour lights fish and chips to follow (much better than rick stein imo)

Lots of little villages to visit and even have a drive across to Helston/the lizard and explore many of the old coves down that way if you like.

thanks guys, some great ideas there

I think the hotel provides a free trip to Pendennis so that'll be on the list

Pendennis is very good, but I would say jump in the car and go visiting. There's so much history and amazing places to visit round here.

Gweek Seal Sanctuary is a good day out for kids, then carry on along to the lizard, visit Porthoustock, Porthallow and St Keverne then down to the lizard too.

We have family that live in Falmouth and nearby Penryn. We vist them twice a year, usually in March and October so as to avoid the busy periods. We always stay at The Falmouth Hotel.

If you want a lazy day then I suggest that you book a table at The Pandora Inn, Restronguet, for lunch and instead of going by car get the ferry boat from Falmouth quay...check the timetables (available online)so as to organise the trip. Car parking there is a nightmare in the summer season!

We were there last week when it was absolutely pissing it down.

A nice little town but parking was a bit difficult as it gets crowded during the holidays.

The traffic congestion both ways at Truro was a bit of a nightmare.

I bet it's loads better in sunshine.

Go into the Chain Locker, drink a few pints of Addelstones cask conditioned cider, and you won't care what your family are doing.

Don't go to the Ten Bells and answer your phone...

Do go to the Ghurka resturant next door. One of Prince Williams hangouts when he stationed down there.

Make time to go on the King Harry Ferry - one of the top ten ferry crossings in the world apparently...

IMHO The King Harry Ferry is nothing other than a quick way to get to St. Mawes by car, certainly nothing special all all. Better to go by boat from Falmouth Quay on the shuttle service.

Great place for an afternoon stroll, St. Mawes.

The maritime museum's a good day out. We were there a couple of weeks ago with our 2 year olds and they loved it. There's a search and rescue display on at the moment with a sea king, lifeboats, quad etc for them to clamber over!
