Taxi fares/ directions in London
Discussion
I'm going to London on Thursday, I don't get out much and I'm a bit nervous about it. I live out in the sticks and don't go into towns (or cities) much I live on the south-eastern border of Northumberland and I'm pleasantly surprised that the train ride is allegedly less than three hours, I thought it'd be much longer.
Anyway, I need to get from Kings Cross Station to Queen's College, which AA route planner tells me is only 1.9 miles. How long would it take me to walk this far and how much would a cab cost? I literally have no idea. Is this a nice area or am I likely to get mugged?

At the very least. More likely stabbed. Or bummed. Or stabbed in the bum. With a cock.
You live in the sticks, you say - got a shotgun?
That's what I thought. I haven't come across many ethnic folk in my life, I hope I don't stare too much when I encounter my first black person. I'll just look at the ground. You live in the sticks, you say - got a shotgun?
No weapons, I'm afraid. I don't live on a farm

You can cut your walk considerably by taking the Victoria Line to Oxford Circus or the Circle line to Great Portland Street.
Biggest issue I have getting cabs at KK is the queue is always massive.
What about walking? I think I'm due to arrive about 45 minutes before I need to be at Queen's College, is this enough time to walk it?Biggest issue I have getting cabs at KK is the queue is always massive.

Yes. It doesn't take you longer to walk in London than any other city in the world, road crossings excepted. I did see a man on Lindon Bridge the other day with a snake around his neck. Bet you've never seen that in your town?

I'm just not sure how far 1.9 miles is in real terms, or how long it would take to walk it. The furthest I walk is to my garage to get the car out.I did see a man on Lindon Bridge the other day with a snake around his neck. Bet you've never seen that in your town?

Normal walking pace being 4mph its less than half an hour, however with walking being such a novelty to you just get a taxi

Can I suggest, if you have time, that you jump on a train to Southall and have a walk around. You will be amazed I think.
What is it that makes it interesting? I'll probably be going to stay for two or three weeks around Christmas time so I am interested in visiting places. Someone suggested the Warner Brothers Studio in Watford, it looks pretty good.PumpkinSteve said:
