Good call, Puggit, St. Maarten is a great pace to chill, and as you say the food is the best in the Caribbean. Great sunset bar at the end of the runway even if it's in St. Martin!.

Here is a 'postcard' from our trip:

It's actually under the flight path of the small northern airport - and a much more chilled place! Yes, it's a bar as well...

Canada, just north of Vancouver. Great skiing 2 hours away, outdoor attitude, great mix of food, top people.
Living in a huge house for silly money with a skidoo, jet ski, kayaks in the garage and a stupidly massive truck on the drive.
Same, only you can keep the winter, brrrr.

Biking on the Island and Whistler Bike Park by day, lakeside in the evening, Vancouver for the nightlife.

Anchored off Palmerston Island. Great diving, lovely people and so out of the way. Houses built from shipwrecks washed up on the reef. It's now been flung into the 21st century with a phone.

Cairns would suit me fine right about now, even though it is winter you get this

The food here after a night on the beer is the best

Lunch beside the lagoon can be cooked here

And an hour on the boat and you are here

My how typing this post whilst listening to the rain fall outdoors makes me long to pack up and fk off for a few months again frown

Puggit,

Looks like you were very close to Grand Case, excellent. We stayed at the Grand Case Beach Club, maybe a 1/2 mile north of Grand Case, also a good base.

Indeed it's Grand Case, and that is Antigua in the background of my pic thumbup

Small place called the Love Hotel - cheesy name, but amazing pad. They don't start breakfast until 9am and if you want croissants you have to wait for them to go to the bakery to get them rofl

Puggit,

Anguilla, not Antigua, I think? Anguilla is another excellent Carib. place for a cool holiday.

For those who don't know, there was a 1969 invasion of Anguilla. This was due to the locals wishing to stay British. We shall fight them on the beaches...............erm, with a cold beer and fresh fish for lunch. cool

Saw this thread and immediately thought.... Hoi An, Vietnam - Nam Hai hotel.

http://www.thenamhai.com/

Bloody loved it there, and want to go again, but having checked for a 2 bed villa with pool to take my wife & children, I saw it's about £8k for the week's accomodation!
