Morning all,

Looking for some advice/reviews from people on Ischgl... anyone been there before? Any recommendations?

It has been suggested as the location for this years ski trip. Myself and 5 mates. All good skiers, all interested in the Apres, we havent found anywhere to stay yet as the couple of places that have been suggested both appear to be sub par.

I went to Ischgl this year. The skiing was good (mixed group of intermediate and advanced), the nightlife was good, there was too much snow (resort was shut on arrival day which was tricky, some pistes took a while to open in the week).

We stayed at Hotel Albona which was a short walk from the bottom of the piste and the bubble lift.

I'd go there again.

Thanks, that hotel looks nice. Possibly a little high budget for us, but that has yet to be confirmed.

Ischgl is a great resort, in recent years it's become a bit too expensive accommodation wise and a bit overrun with Russians IMO. If on piste is more your thing I can't think of many places better. The off piste is great too but overall I prefer St Anton, more affordable accommodation choices , better nightlife IMO, off piste is leaps and bounds ahead, allot of out of contol muppets on piste, great area over in Lech and Zurs included on your pass.

What's your budget? I find in Austria even the bottom end is more than acceptable i.e. clean.

I have been to St Anton (in fact I'm pretty sure I spent the millenium there). And I like it a lot.
I was under the impression that it would be more expensive, off I go to have a look at what is available.

Quite a few budget option availible in St Anton even through the UK TO's. In fact last year I booked through Crystal for a week with the lads, I think when you were last there the Nasserein lift possibly didn't exist? Nasserein used to be avoided due to needing a bus but now it's just a slightly quiter option than St Anton as it has it's own lift but is only about 10 mins walk between the two to stagger back at night and the buses are frequent enough. As there were 8 of us we'd often end up in moose then a taxi back to our door was <2 euro a head.

Totally depends on your groups ability, I found on piste in St Anton a bit odd in that there wasn't too much between the pistes in terms of difficulty grading. The blues were pretty challenging for blues but the blacks not much more difficult. We did some great touring up in Stuben area and the pistes were so quiet compared to the other hills we spent allot of time blating about over there.

Given what Ischgl has to offer it's not overly popular with Brits hence the lack of accomadtion with UK To's maybe?

Can't go wrong with either, Ischgl is great. I'd say all in all St Anton is my favourite resort and I've been to a few.

If you're a death-or-glory off-piste and black run only group then you probably won't be blown-away by the skiing. Equally if you're a stay-in-the-chalet-in-the-evenings group you're just wasting space someone more up for the Ischgl apres ski could be using.

If on the other hand you're happy with miles of blue and red pistes, heated chairlift seats (on an increasing number of lifts on the Austrian side), half a roast chicken for lunch and evenings eating meat, drinking beer and learning hand actions for songs you can't understand - you'll love it.
