Heard about this on Chris Evans breakfast show a few weeks ago, some chap phoned in and said it was to stop people wearing shorts which can collect/hold sand if they have been on a beach wearing them, the sand then gets loose in the pool and clogs filters.
now that does actually sound plausible.. The amount of sand and chit that remains in my shorts when I've been to a sand beach is unreal

What do you do if your in he following situation

1. Very large todger which you don't want people to notice (no idea why)
2. Large "brains" small todger
3. Child size manhood which you don't want people to see/be aware of
4. Your so fat the rolls of tummy and thighs when you sit down make it appear your nude as in they overlap the trunks
1/2/3 Not give a damn anyway as nobody else will, except for people who don't matter anyway?
4 Probably shouldn't be attempting to swim in an open session without losing weight.

Christ! Do they still do this? I remember being kicked out of a french swimming pool 25 years ago for wearing swim shorts.

They're a little less strict now then, when I visited France on a school trip in the 80's they chucked us out of a swimming pool because we were not wearing swimming caps laugh

There are many more strict regulations applied such as (glassware not allowed

using of shower facility before using the pool etc.

Here in the UK we have been infected with the whole USA puritan ethos where if you show anything above the knee then you are immediately accused of being a kiddyfiddler or (apparently worse still) a ghey. Heaven forbid that a male should actually show any sign that they have reproductive equipment.

Whatever size and shape you are, baggy shorts are horrible garments for swimming. I bet if you wore the regulation trunks in the pool along with everyone else, you'd forget about it within five minutes.

ETA: It is not unknown for people to swim in their underwear, which I think is what the poster was referring to, rather than baggy shorts.

This is it right here. In the UK and USA, if you wear trunks you are considered a weirdo, shorts are the norm. In the rest of the entire world, if you wear shorts you are a weirdo. A frankly bizarre trend really, I can understand shorts for beach wear or at the poolside, but once you are in the water they are just a hindrance. Last time I was on holiday I was snorkelling in shorts and I was pretty much the only one doing so.

Some blokes will suffer an "inni" if it's cold... For all to see that wouldn't be impressive shorts mask that issue for those who suffer.

Remember most are not 6" on the flop

I wish that I could pick up any old beach sand for my filter instead of paying for special graded silica!
