Hello,

We're off on our hols soon. a normal Ibiza/Clio/whatevs type rental from hertz is just under £120 for the week but with europcar or avis it's a good 30-40 more.

so basically you get a day for free with hertz.

it's not like i am looking at "SolAzul SlickoTyres Renta-Marbella" which are obviously cheaper. do you think there's a reason why Hertz ought to be cheaper..?

Could it be because they are trying to get your business by undercutting their competitors’ prices? confused

We've just come back from a holiday in Spain (Barcelona) where we rented a 1.2TSI Polo for £125 for 1 week with Europcar. First time I've rented a car abroad and didn't have a single issue with them.

That rate was direct from their website so I'm, not sure why yours varies

Might be worth looking on Martin Lewis' website - we hired a 1.2 Corsa for a week for ~ £90 in Ibiza two weeks ago.

Was through a local company, but all was good and went smoothly.

Have a look at www.auto-europe.co.uk . Had a car via them from Hertz last week, it was about 25% cheaper than Hertz/Europcar direct.

Dont go by the headline cheapest, there are lots of cons, whether collision damage waiver is included, whether windscreen/tyre damage insurance is included, whether they have a full/full or full/empty policy (its bloody hard to empty a car in a week on Ibiza) and of course how much they rip you off for a tank of fuel in the first place... I use Hiper in Mallorca regularly and I believe they have an office in Ibiza to.

Used GoldCar in Barcelona recently - bargain. Got a very nice current shape Ford Fester with a/c for only 80 Euros for three days. Full waiver ins was IICR £25, so less than £100 for three days. Result.

They even refunded my card with the unused petrol in the tank when I took the car back ;-)

goldcar are poor
anymore than 5 days and they force you to take the whole tank with no refund

on small islands such as ibiza or mallorca its a joke

For my trip to California Hertz are cheaper than every other rental company for each of the cars we're renting. The only time others have come up cheaper is with an agent.

OP, you're as bad as me.

The Missus will have spent £40 at the airport before you even check in.

Sign up for Avis Preferred for free.

Book.

Turn up at the airport, get served immediately at the preferred desk, 50/50 get a better car than you booked, as everyone just goes straight for the second cheapest.

I use Centauro and can recommend them. They also don't fleece you on the fuel (so much).
You can always find cheaper.
