Marriott Resort and Spa, on the river.
Stayed a coupleof years ago and found it very good. Shuttle boat across the river with cold towels and mineral water and it drops you right at the skytrain station.
Has a good pool area, a selection of restauram\nts and a spectacular breakfast.
They do family rooms too.

When I stayed with the family (kids 5 and 9), we had a suite at the Plaza Athenee it was perfect. In fact we stayed 3 times in total.
We were also upgraded to their very best suite usually many ££££££'s because I had joined their loyalty club and the policy was to upgrade to the best room available. You needed gold level on the loyalty club which I got because i used a promotion with visa.
Club lounge is great too with free drinks and snacks (well worth the upgrade)
I have stayed in many hotels around the world and the Plaza Athenee is probably the best major city hotel I have stayed in.
nb (my last stay there was about 5 years ago)

We stayed in the hotel that is feature in "The Hangover 2". Not the dive, the decent one. It is Lebua. It cost us about $100 a night and you get a 700sqf room which has a sitting area, a small kitchen and a bed rood. The food is very good but also very expensive. However, the club lounge is free and they serve excellent food and cocktails.

+1 incredible place. One of the bars made me cry with the price. I think it was £35 a drink! Blown2CV said:

+1 incredible place. One of the bars made me cry with the price. I think it was £35 a drink! When I left I paid the bill. When looking at it I said "I have already paid for the room". I then realised that the room charge was not there and I had managed to spend much more on the restaurants and bars than the room cost me!
I have seen the Lebua going for as little as 50 pounds a night, but it really isn't that good compared to many other hotels in Bangkok. Easily some of the best hotels in the world and the 2nd tier ones are not far behind them in terms of service etc.
Bangkok is also one of the best food cities in the world too, not just for Thai food either. A better, albeit less spectacular, place for a decent meal is Scarlett on the top floor of the Pullman G hotel (ex-Sofitel). Executive chef has a Paris restaurant called Louis XIII which has a couple of Michelin stars.

Stayed in Labua in a three bedroom suite a couple of years ago, it was very good but not quite the ultimate hotel they claim it is. Drinks very expensive, I think I paid £46 for one bottle of lager, one white wine and four soft drinks for the kids. I moaned about the noise from other rooms one night and to apologize they laid on a 5 course banquet served in the suite by two waiters for nothing. It's also a bit out of the action and getting around in taxi's is a waste of time.
Going to the Pullman G in a November, roughly the same price as Labua for three executive doubles on the top floor with club access.

Thanks chaps, some good suggestions but as we all know it isn't us men who have the final say. This will be our 4th time to Thailand and now Mrs S whants to spread our wings and head South(to the beach)
Got any suggestions for which town and hotel.I fancy Hua Hin for sentimental reason as I holidayed there 30 years ago as a young teen.Is there enough in Hua Hin to keep us busy for 10 days?

Did Hua Hin this year, with Mrs. Tezzer, as well as 3 stops in BKK and Samui.
Here in Bangkok where I am now, I invariably stay at the Conrad, where I am typing this. Good hotel and once you have history there, they look after you.
Stayed at a friends Condo in HH, £200 all in for the week, 100 yards from the beach to the extreme South if HH, but only a 10 minute ride in on the 20 Baht Taxi.2 Pools and Brand new, right on the Golf course too.
Did Le Meridien in Samui, OK, but not in any way special, but half way between the madness of Chaeweng Beach and Lamai Beaches, so quiet if wanted, full on if we didn't.
Here till tomorrow with work, then down to Kuala Lumpur for a week, had I thought about it, I'd have gone down to Singapore today, and taken in the GP !
