Imperial Napasai at Koh Samui. Has water sports etc, quiet location but good acces to the various sights of the Island (elephant ride was enteratining).

We also went to Koh Samet for a few days for a more basic experience. Taxis were 4x4 pick ups. Transfer by speedboat from Mun Nork was fun too

Thanks chaps, some good suggestions but as we all know it isn't us men who have the final say. This will be our 4th time to Thailand and now Mrs S whants to spread our wings and head South(to the beach)
Got any suggestions for which town and hotel.I fancy Hua Hin for sentimental reason as I holidayed there 30 years ago as a young teen.Is there enough in Hua Hin to keep us busy for 10 days?
Went to Hua Hin in February, not really impressed to be honest. Not a lot to do, not very pretty and bit of a trek, certainly wouldn't go back. Best hop to one of the islands from Bangkok, easy cheap flights and plenty of availability. If you don't want to fly to to Pattaya, it's that bad that it's come full circle and is now quite a laugh!!

You have to be a little careful with the flights to the islands from Bangkok.
Bangkok Airways have made the Samui and Trat(serving Chang, Kood etc) flights, quite costly IMO. As they own the airports in these destinations, the limit access and as a result inflate prices.
If you want to fly to Samui, consider flying to Surat Thani and then getting the combined bus and ferry ticket. A lot cheaper, but significantly more hassle. I can be bothered with the faff and always pay the man at Bangkok Airways and fly direct.

As always happens there is mission creep in the Smith household.Mrs S has now booked flights from Bangkok to Cambodia, when we've done our bit there it's overland back to Bangkok to meet some friends from Melbourne.
I love her dearly but she's hard to keep up with when she is on a mission.
