Since being made redundant last year, I have seen life with a new prospective. Some say that my new vision is very depressing.
I want to make more of my life and was wondering if I would benefit from buying a holiday home.

I wish to get away from the hum drum life and goto somewhere very different and thought that there must be places on the earth that are fantastic in terms of lifestyle and scenery, but very cheap to buy a small one room place.

Whilst watching a program about railway journies last night, I saw places in India whic looked very nice - Outi and Runneymeade. Perhaps China has places?

Does anyone have a holiday home in an unusual place, or can anyone recommend me a place to buy or research.

Colleague of mine has a property in northern Morocco. Fairly easy to fly to (circa 4 hours) and it's a world away, different vibe / culture etc.

I had (rented) a house for some years in a village called Rangri in the Kulu-Manali valley in Himachal Pradesh. It was an amazing place and a marvellous lifestyle experience and apart from providing stunning geography and general scenery it was the fittest I've ever been in adult life. And it cost peanuts.

Both places really fit the bill.
I have been to Morroco and love its atmosphere.
I have also been to Kulu and liked it there.

How can i go about finding property for sale in these sorts of locations?

Whilst in Kerala, a person we met on holday bought a house for something like £10k (maybe less) near Kovalam Beach. He was a bit of an entrepreneur and a little mad and as I haven't seeen him since, I have no idea of whether this transaction was legal, enforceable or whatever and I'm not even sure it was much more than a little bit of land with a shack on it but he was happy.

I have often wondered how much further my pension would go in a place like India, when I retire though obviously the rainy season is to be avoided at all costs. I could certainly eat out every single day and buy my own tuk-tuk.

This is one of my major concerns. The legality of buying a home in a foregin country.

Prices of around £10k are hwat i had in mind, but there must be cheaper out there.....

Admittedly it was 30 years ago, but back then when we were in Kulu-Manali it wasn't possible to spend £50 a week, and we could have lived on £20 (for two).

I was arrested in Kulu Minali - probably best not to go back there again.

Lots of Forign countries would require you to set up a ltd company which buys the land/house as yours a foreigner cannot own freehold land.

Got to say though you could choose Mongolia one of the bigger places in the world etc. but living on a shoe string budget is fine but add in local taxes rules energy costs water notary payments. Some may have to be done on person at set times.

Id wager you could rent somewhere or stay in a low rent b&b in chosen location with zero hassle of ownership. Also how do you propose selling? £10k buys many many years accomodation in the worlds cheapest lovely resorts with zero hassle plus it's only £10k.
