Family gathering for new year, destination ideas in the nort

Usual large house in the lakes has been booked so we're looking for ideas?

Closer to Carlisle would be better but we can travel, needs to accommodate:
Grandparents (early sixties)
Two couples in 20-40's age range
Kids 9 & 12

Any nye celebrations need to take into acount all the age ranges

Quite possibly 2 well behaved dogs!

As you can tell a house in the lakes is usually perfect as we can do Ambleside for nye.

But anything considered!
