Reporting a Theft in Portugal (now back in the UK)
Discussion
I have just come back from Portugal with my O.H. albeit minus her handbag, my mobile and our camera which was swiped from the car in Praia de Faro (Faro Beach) car park.
Obviously I need to report this to the Portuguese police ASAP mainly just to get a crime reference number but there seem to be multiple varieties (the PSP, the GNR and the Ministério da Administração Interna) also I don't speak any Portuguese.
I spoke to some Guarda National officers before leaving but due to the impending flight (by then about an hour away) I could not attend the police station though they said that I could report it from the UK.
Does anyone know who I should be reporting this to and whether they are likely to speak English?
Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks.

You want the PSP, who are the city police. They have windows live messenger, oddly.

Try and have a conversation using that and Google Translate. It'll be like being on holiday all over again.

Thank you.
Their not online today it seems, but I called their Faro office (the guy spoke good English) but he said it was a GNR police thing, so I called them next (they spoke not-so-good English) but told me I could report it online (or in person - which is impossible since we had to come back to the UK that evening)
It looks like there is a process here though;

for reporting minor crimes in Portugal so I've worked through that with Google Translate and will have to see what happens next.
I just want a crime number so I can send off the insurance form...
