Not sure where this belonged.

Thought this was quite an interesting development.
Of course the normal sized traveler will still be squeezed in to accommodate the extra seat width that the fatty needs. Thanks guys rolleyes

There must be a fairer solution than this surely! Also how do they ensure that the fatty sits in the designated fat seat? I suppose you could get lucky and end up in one of the bigger seats by chance.

Why not just make all the seats bigger and just have a few less of them? Money I suppose.

Pointless fluff piece - move along, nothing to see here.

Airbus make aircraft but it's always the buyer (airline or leasing company) that specifies, and quite often carries out the interior fit-out. So it's all well and good Airbus coming up with isle seats 2" wider but that's more them finding another way of saying "we have wide isles" than saying new aircraft will actually have them.

So they are going to line all the fat people up in the aisle seats, this creating a dangerous blockage to prevent thin people being able to escape in an emergency.

I once witnessed someone so fat that she couldn't sit in the bulkhead seat she'd paid extra for, as they have special belts and non-movable armrests. She had to sit in the row behind with normal belts, lift the arms and use an extension belt. Yuck!

Looks like it. Which is beyond stupid. Also you will have to get them to move, which would probably be more of a hassle, if you need the loo or want to stretch your legs.

That's disgusting. Surely they felt quite ashamed at having to be in that situation? Also I pity the poor people next to her.

She was American, on an AA flight - I'm sure they see it all the time. She was travelling with husband and son (both thin), so they moved with her.

Simple solution - anyone over 100kg pays for 2 seats, unless they can go through a people guage similar to hand luggage. wink

Maxwell used to pay for two seats on Concorde and have the arm rest removed.

Quite right too.

A few larger people I know spend the cash to upgrade to get more room, these may now not need to.

Almost universally desperately ashamed amongst the handful of really really large people I've known. Self hatred is a large part of the wider (pun unintended) problem, I think.

I've seen someone force their bag in there, then need 2 people's help to get it back out. I'm not helping pull some salad-dodger out of one!

17" wide standard seat? I suspect a lot more people would then require 'fat' seats.
How many folk can fit in a standard seat comfortably. To be honest biggest issue is shoulder room for me.
I'm certainly not the slimest bloke, nowt i can do with shoulders, can't loose bone width!
Always try and get an isle seat but you can normally only book window and centre for a couple not centre and aisle.
