Female travelling alone to Turkey
Discussion
Hi - similar thread to the Morocco one.
My wife is thinking of travelling to visit her expat. father out in Turkey in a week or two. I can't go with her and I'm concerned about the hassle she is going to get. Travelling from Edinburgh to Istanbul - 2 hour wait there and then onto Izmir. Where she will get a taxi - on her own - to her dads place.
She is dark haired and busty - despite her not being blonde I am worried the hassle she might get at airports on her own and the travelling by taxi.
Is it likely to be bad? We aren't big travellers and neither of us have been to Turkey before but her dads ill and I want her to spend some time with him just the two of them.
Still can't help but worry.
I went to Istanbul this summer with my Mum. Now I'm not particularly busty, but I am fair, so expect to receive a reasonable amount of attention even ff I'm covered head to toe. I didn't find Istanbul to be at all bad in this sense - I've travelled in Tunisia, and found this to be much worse.
Some sensible suggestions - make sure shoulders and knees are covered, you don't need to wear trousers or long sleeved shirts necessarily, a knee length skirt and short sleeved blouse/tshirt is fine. The hassle level generally goes down if you do at least stick to this.
I'd say that being sensible in this regard would make the positives of the trip outweigh the risks

Thanks for this. I can't go with her (work in same dept - I'm not getting time off) so can't help but worry. It doesn't help that when she gets to Izmir she has to travel by taxi at 10:30pm for an hour to get to her dad's.Some sensible suggestions - make sure shoulders and knees are covered, you don't need to wear trousers or long sleeved shirts necessarily, a knee length skirt and short sleeved blouse/tshirt is fine. There must be a good reason why her Dad can't pick her up, but surely he must know someone who can or at least know of a local taxi driver/firm that he trusts and can send them.
This ^^^...or she could have pre-booked a local hotel with airport pick-up for that night and travel onwards the next day.

@mrmr - any need for this sort of reply?!
A thread from a man concerned that his wife may be subject of unwanted attention whilst alone abroad, and you want to ask about a photo so you can knock one out? It may well be a joke, but given the subject and reason for posting the OP don't you think it's a tad inappropriate that you should exhibit such lecherous behaviour, even in jest? Thanks for the replies all.
Today she has managed to speak with her dad and she put across our worries about the travel - from my point of view the travelling alone in a taxi at 10pm not knowing where she is going was the most worrying part - however her dad is managing to get to the airport with a friend ( he is ill and isn't allowed to drive ) to take her back to his place. Hurrahh!
Not so worried now - thanks to all who replied. She will be suitably dressed for the travelling and hanging about Istanbul airport etc. Wish I could be with her but at least she is getting to go over...after a 4 hour wait on Saturday at Glasgow passport office ! Lucky her!
Thanks again for the advice on this.
Cheers
