Anyone used Avios yet?Anyo

Hi

Prior to Air Miles changing to Avios I found using AM's to be dead simple. I rang the place up and booked flights, hotels and car hire. They could even sort out a motorhome hire in the USA. I got the impression that AM's could be pretty much used for any/most things travel wise.

Is it the same with Avios?

I appreciate there are surcharges etc to pay but are they still as useful as AM's?

As I have a quadrillion, squillion Avios points (and have stopped collecting) I plan to have a long weekend in a European capital next summer with Mrs O and want to try and fly business/first; stay in a 5 star hotel and even get a chauffered car to do the transfers.

Doable? Anyone with any direct experiences?

I used them the weekend just gone - nothing special, just a return shuttle Aberdeen to Heathrow and hire car. I found it very easy and was actually quite impressed by the value - I recall the flight only cost taxes and the hire car was a freebie apart from insurance excesses.
