To use the Voucher, you must book a trip with BA during it's valid period, and the trip must include you and you must use Avios points, cash, or a combination of these.

That's interesting, it was my impression you could only use the companion voucher if you booked with Avios points.R.

Can I redeem a Companion Voucher when I pay with Avios & Money?
No, the Companion Voucher is only valid when you pay fully with Avios. However, you can purchase up to 24,000 Avios per annum, per account, if you don’t have enough Avios for your chosen reward flight.

Thanks, so really you need to accumulate lots of miles if you want to fly long haul in Club/1st.

ahh I see! Is first worth the extra 50,000 over club then? I've flown club on BA, but never first! Will aim for 150,000 then!
If you can't get to 150k, you could try for 125k, which would get you oneway in Club and the other in First.I have used Avios and companion vouchers for various holidays over the past few years and can't fault them, availability is always pretty good as long as you are booking far enough in advance and the use of Avios to upgrade from WT+ to Club is an added bonus.
I am not sure I would bother if I did not travel with BA a lot as it must take ages to earn enough points to go anywhere if relying on card spend alone.
