Do you fight yourself? wink
Being half American he'll fight anyone.
And then the UK half will stand up and go "Yeeeahhhhhhhh" while waving a pantomime-villain fist.

As usual, what starts as someone asking for some honest advice turns into a load of tts forcing their opinion...

Dylan fking Thomas indeed!
I am disappoint on so many issues here. frown

After I posted on this thread almost a decade ago, a prior neighbour of mine in Luxembourg and a bunch of his old timer car mates had all their cars shipped to the US and A for an anniversary drive. (I can't even remember the obscure make of his car!) They drove Route 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica. In 60 year old cars without AC....sweat boxes.
Oh, and it cost them thousands to ship their cars, then they had to have them re-tuned on arrival so they could run on stty US petrol. biggrin

lol hehe

Anyway, the time since this thread was created @thealso on Twitter has turned taking silly cars to America into an art form. Worth a follow.

Total 911 had a contributor Anthony Coyne who shipped his 993 across to the US and drove it thousands of miles over a month I believe and detailed everything that was involved. Am sure there is an online site showing what this guy did and wow what an adventure through the deep south and some of the Smokey mountain passes. Read AircooledBug.co.uk for more details.

I'm fairly sure that that's a thread on here too

ETA I thought I'd saved the location - https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

What car do you have OP? Unless its say, an Enzo or Zonda, surely you can rent something special for cheaper than shipping? I think I read somewhere that shipping a car is around £2k one way all in?

There are exotic rentals (Ferrari/Lambo etc) in the USA and even Hertz and the big boys do Corvettes/AMG/Porsche....
You are correct regarding shorter trips. I am planning to make a 6 weeks road trip. Renting a Huracan appears to cost around $50,000. So, it definitely makes sense to bring my own car. Besides, I am more comfortable driving the corkscrew at Willow Springs with my car than in any rental. But, that seems to be the level where it makes (financial) sense, bringing a Porsche for two weeks is not worth it.
