Couldn't get a decent flight back from Zurich which would allow us to ski on Sat and for my buddy to make his connection back to the US.
So, I ended up booking in and out of Geneva...and now left facing the "where to" choice from there. I'm thinking Chamonix (haven't been there) - did Morzine / Avoriaz last year and the snow was v soft after 11am same week. Chamonix tres bon???
I'm off to Morzine on Thursday (stop off at the Motor Show) apparently the skiing conditions are great, with some lovely sunny weather. Or so I've been told. The ski season has certainly moved back over the last 10 years in Europe. Heck we can now comfortably ski in April but December is very hit and moss
In the Portes Du Soleil, very much so, moss, grass and mud right up to the massive snowfall on Boxing Day!Although once it cooled down and they had some serious snow in Feb, they seem to have had some superb conditions. I still get regular tweets from Les Gets Tourism which makes me wish I had more time to spend out there!

Does anyone have any good tips for a last minute deal to St Anton? I have been looking around and the discounts for a last minute holiday seem to be very small. I'm looking for the week starting 21st March but most places don't even seem to have a reduction!
Have you tried booking direct with a hotel and going independently? The Euro is very weak at the moment - you want to be paying in Euros if you can..Try through the local st anton tourist board. Worked for me a couple of years back.

Can anybody recommend websites that I can buy snowboarding clothes from? preferably discounted.
Sportpursuit throws up some good winter sports stuff in the one off sales. Though being a "shopping club" (you have to register to access, and stock changes all the time), it has some pretty good stuff, and I found the delivery service prompt and as described when I bought some ski gear. Just makes sure you have notifications turned off or you end up browsing through the goretex or merino base layer offers more often than should be healthy. We're off to La Plagne tomorrow with another couple for a week in a Crystal chalet, haven't done chalet's before but they know all about it so it should be fine, it looks like there will be fresh snow as well, joy!!!
I have a big birthday on Thursday and as any true pistonhead I am doing the full Olympic 120kph Bobsleigh run just to prove that reaching the age of 65 is no barrier to male foolishness.

Back from a week in Ellmau - in Austria's SkiWelt. Good conditions despite the heat (15C some days). Not sure the area will be viable at easter if they don't get a late snowfall but we had a great time. Careful choice of slopes in the afternoon avoided an experience more resembling surfing! Met some really nice Dutch folks that we ended up skiing with a lot...
Wouldn't go back there though - prefer longer runs... seemed to be very short skiing between lifts, particularly when trying to keep higher in the afternoons. Everyting else about the resort was perfect.

Just came back from Morzine, lovely skiing out there. Great warm sunny weather (I saw 13 degrees at lunchtime). All the pistes and lifts were open. Good skiing conditions all day - I was only there for the weekend so was first up, last down both days. Did the full tour of the Portes Du Soleil - all the runs were open but some poor snow conditions on the Swiss side.

Ditto. Was taking part in the alpine challenge, covered 200km in 2 days.Gassing Station | Holidays & Travel | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
