What was the airline seating like?
First time I went club it was great, 2nd time with the bulkhead seats I technically had more room but not as great a service.

That depends on whether I can get good enough airline seats, but I'm seriously thinking about returning to Thailand end of November. Maybe Khao Lak again, maybe do some travelling further north as well.

Lots.

Do a boat trip to phang nga, James Bond island. Phi Phi Islands. All worth visiting but crowded with tourists.

Visit the temples, Big bhudda. You can try moto cross if that is your thing there too. Night Markets in phuket old town on a saturday/Sunday.

Cars can be had for about £30 for the day with a guide.

If you can, charter a helicopter. The most amazing thing I have ever done.

Where are you planning on staying.

Trip itinerary at the moment is to go to Thailand between 20th dec to 5th jan.

Atm I'm thinking of Christmas in Bangkok, and NYE in Phuket. Looking at staying in Patong while in Phuket.

Thinking of also going to Pattaya, Hua Hin and maybe Chiang Mai at some point; but I'm having trouble nailing down exactly what dates and how long to spend at each.

Also looking to do a Scuba Diving course while in Patong smile

Exceste. don't go to Pattya, it is just seedy. As I said many times on here, Pucket and Patong can be what ever you want, family holiday, weekend with the boys, but Pattya really is just nasty, in Patong you can avoid the seedy bits if you want.

My nest trip for the August bank holiday weekend is to take the bike to Ko Lanta, never stopped there just driven around on the way to other places but looks very nice and no yet commercialized.

As Berw says, skip Pattaya unless you want a bit of slease,

Did a last run in the car in thailand last Christmas before moving back to SG

Bangkok - Hua Hin - (Lunch Stop in Parchuap Khirikhan) - Bang Saphen - Ranong - Khao Lak - Krabi - Kata Beach Phuket - Hua Hin - Bangkok.

Phuket and Krabi are worth 7 - 10 days between them (with Island visits and some beach chilling), Hua Hin is nice for 2 or 3 days, the rest are pleasant overnight stops to break up the drive.

If you want a rental car in Phuket (i prefer to rental scooters as safer / aircon / can carry stuff with you etc etc) i have found Andaman Car Rentals to be great service and affordable in the past, it also allow's you to look at more places to stay (i like Kata and Rawai personally)

Edit to add, we also booked everything at the day by day and found some fantastic deals at 4 and 5 star resorts as we traveled around - Thailand tourism industry is not as booming these days as it used to be.

If you're adventurous about 1.5 hrs N of Phuket lies the Khao Sok National Park. It's mainly untouched rainforest. Lots of wildlife (even rumoured to be tigers, though none have been spotted for some time), not many tourists (unlike in the parks up north, on the official trails anyway). You can book a guide to take you off the recognised (barely) paths and spend the day in jungle and waterfall. Alternately the park surrounds a lake and there are official cabins built lakeside. Take an early morning canoe ride from your cabin and listen to the incredible dawn chorus from the jungle. The noise the monkeys make echoes across the huge lake and is quite incredible and other-wordly.

Timely thread.....

We're (wife plus 14 & 11yr old) visiting Phucket + Khaolak in April next year for the 1st time, one week in each with 2 days in Khao Sok National park trekking rafting, etc.

All other trips we're planning to book when there, apparently there's more choice and it's cheaper. Any good suggestions for trips / days out? (diving is also on the agenda)

Make sure you explain to the wife about the mozzies and leeches. If you're properly prepared for rainforest it's utterly beautiful.

We looked at Phuket when booking Thailand, however decided upon Chiang Mai instead as there seemed to be more going on and also going in October isn't the best for a beach holiday; can't wait until the 30th September.
