I've been tasked with organising a Saturday night out in Brizzle , rest of weekend is sorted . There will be about 15-20 of us early/mid thirties fairly well behaved on Sat 25th April.

Can anyone recommend a decent curry house or restaurant that could accommodate us, ideally Clifton way, or near the centre?

Also can anyone recommend any bars and clubs to go to after? Was thinking the Big Chill/Mr Wolfs as several of us are into funk and soul and defentatly not Oceania

Used to go to Bristol a fair bit, but haven't been there for a while so a bit out the loop, plus not sure how places with react to 20 blokes turning up, so will probably contact them before hand

Dismissed the Bierkeller, was tempted by the Bavarian Beer House, but the last stag we all went on we spent the night in a German themed bar so fancy a change, unless it is really worth it?

Thanks in advance

For food check out the Stable or Zero Degrees, both pizza places but great for big groups. Curry-wise, try 4500 miles from Dehli, it's right in the centre, does groups and actually looks quite nice. Not tried it yet though.

For bars, it's cool to take people to the 'Beermuda Triangle' on King Street, and go to either the Beer Emporium, Small Bar and the Navy Volunteer. No one can handle more than 1 or 2 craft beers though! So after that you're probably right about going to Big Chill, and for catering to a broad audience Slug and Lettuce is actually not too bad.

I was unofficial guide on a stag do recently but struggled with music tastes, apparently stuff like David Guette was a bit to heavy for some of the group.... rolleyes

Had mine there and it was great.

Don't exactly remember very much of it though!

Curry houses - if you like a more "old school" curry house then I can recommend The Raj on King Street. Haven't been there for a couple of years but never had anything but good food and service in there. About 2 minutes walk from the centre.

If you like the more modern/contemporary style curry house then I was really impressed with 4500 Miles From Delhi which is right on the centre itself - despite not expecting to be. Been there three times since and food has been wonderful every time (though the place is absolutely huge, so it it's quiet, it feels empty)

Alternatively for something different, try Old India. It's set in a really old fantastic building. Quite small but amazing food. That's just off of Baldwin Street or Corn Street (can never remember which!) but again, within 2 minutes of the centre/waterfront area.

A visit to Za Za Bazaar is a MUST...especially for pre lash feed.

Its all you can eat World Buffet....but its not your usual slop you get at these places. Its good quality, cooked fresh in small batches by Chef's you can see! There's everything you can imagine.

I always make a trip there with colelagues when at head office.

Couldn't disagree more-bog standard, over-priced slop. I'd rather stay in and have beans on toast than eat the tripe they serve up.

Can second someone else's recommendation for the Raj on King Street, but you will have to book as very popular. Big Chill is good - very chilled out and nice atmosphere.

I would recommend checking anywhere you want to go in advance as most decent placed try their best to keep groups of males out - I would imagine this applies to the Big Chill.

Interesting view. I've been regularly with many catering industry professionals and we all agree that for £15 per head the food is decent quality. The Indian section is particularly good.

How old are you all?

The idea of wandering around drinking beer at micro breweries full of men on a stag do sounds a bit...well....boring to me! but each to their own. I have been to them all and they are good but not stag do material!

cheers chaps

Raj is booked, been to za za bazaar before , it was ok, but Raj looks good

we are about 28- 38 in terms of age, mostly early 30s

Struggling with club choice, nothing too cheesy, balcony would be ace

Just phoned LaRocca but they said they operate a mixed policy nightclub so we cant get on guest list!

Some good clubs up park street and on the triangle. The mixed policy is crap its a way of saying we want mostly women on the guest list. Best bet is to get a table in one of them, you won't have a mixed group issue then, most of them offer this and you will have a minimum spend of £180ish which will get you some over priced bottle of spirit but it will still work out cheaper then all buying drinks separately smile But its like that everywhere. Lola lo on the triangle is a small but good club with a small courtyard area and you can book a non mixed table there which gives you somewhere to sit down and leave your drinks in comfort without queuing for ages. Same with Mbargo and a few others.

If you are a group of blokes out on the piss around that area you will need to book somewhere really for a club otherwise you will end up in Pryzm, Agora, Yia Mass or something of the like. If you are not into that you could head down Gloucester road - its endless bars etc

I actually agree that is was far better there than I was expecting as I went for a big Christmas work do and thought it would be horrible. Most stuff was ok, some was really quite nice and I couldn;t fault the choice and variety. And I would consider myself a 'foodie' too.

Another vote for the Raj though, been going there for years and it's always been good. The Stable is great aswell if you don't want curry but fancy pizza and cider (both amongst the best in Bristol).

OP: please do report back!

I've a stag weekend in Brizzle in the middle of May, a group of 10 or so, mostly late 30s. I'm the oldest at 44.

We're off to the Bath-Gloucester rugby match with full hospitality on the Saturday, my suggestion as the best man's pretty disorganised. I fear we'll be in for a st time if we rely on him to organise stuff, so interested to know how yours goes please, and where you went, if you can remember!

Cheers for the replies, most appreciated, thought it would be easy sorting a club in a city 45 mins away from me that I have been out in a fair bit, harder than I thought!!

Will report back how it goes, we have Bath Rugby of Friday night , football (us playing) Saturday morning, private boat trip with booze afternoon, then curry/club in evening!

Good shout on tables, good idea! Unfortunately its been hard work to get the hotel money out of the participants, so telling them they will need to spend £180 in a club would push my patience to the limit, as some are skinflints!

Think we will see how we are doing late Saturday night and aim for the Big Chill, hopefully some of the group will have "retired" by then and we can filter down and attach ourselves to some females!

How was it, OP?

It's about 10 days until we're in Brizzle.
Rugby's all booked and paid for, as I posted before, the rest of the schedule's an unknown quantity to me being The Beer Emporium and the Casino.
I'm really not fussed about the Casino and will probably stay in the pub, sorry, Beer Emporium!
