Looking to take the OH somewhere very special for a couple of nights as a mini-moon break (she's pregnant so not looking at going abroad).

So far Bath Priory is winning out but would love some other suggestions if anyone has any.

Thanks!

I like;

Burgh Island Hotel, Bigbury-on-Sea

Hotel Tresanton, St Mawes

South Sands, Salcombe

The Pig Hotel group have a selection in the south west, haven't tried them yet but have heard good things.

Depends how far south west you want to go?

Babbington House never disappoints (and nor should it for the money)

Not quite in the same league, but these guys are good - we go to Ickworth and Moonfleet Manor quite a lot

Combe House in Gittisham near Honiton. Being pregnant she'll love the size of the bath in The Linen Suite. The hotel has won numerous awards particularly for their restaurant.

Sadly though The owners, Ken and Ruth are moving back to Aus and it will be closed from October. The Pig Group (or whatever they are called) are going to be taking over and redeveloping, so it'll be interesting how it fairs in the new year.

Burgh Island at Bigbury on Sea is our favourite hotel in the South West.

It is worlds apart from your normal five star hotel - there are no televisions in the bedrooms, you have to wear a dinner suit to be allowed in the dining room, and I get the impression that you would not be welcome if the proprietors did not like the cut of your jib, but it is an amazing experience.

The food and especially the cocktails are superb and the hotel is in a unique location.

There are!

Thanks to all for the suggestions everyone it's helping a lot.

I had The Priory out front until I saw Gidleigh Park (food is crucial element for us), but the lack of a pool and dedicated spa facilities is a bit annoying as my partner would benefit from these being pregnant (obviously not the hot stuff). No mention of room service either... :/

The Scarlet don't have a suite available for our dates and perhaps a little,.. erm... 'environmental' hehe But it was on my short list...

Another vote for Burgh Island, some amazing rooms, especially the one on stilts over the ocean, absolutely stunning!

From the website it appears they may be trying a bit hard on the art deco style.

Fine line between stylish/kitsch/tasteless - velour bedspreads! eek

Looks like Lucknam Park is out as main restaurant is shut Sun & Mon which would be two of three nights - shame, looks nice.

(They also haven't answered their phone in two days so meh to that)

It is lovely in there but stylish 'vs' kitsch will depend on you liking Art Deco. As a petrol head how can you resist the chance to ride on the sea tractor? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBbJtkBVOi4

I got married at the Burgh Island hotel 11 years ago. Booked the whole place for one night.

Wonder if it's changed much since.

Magdalen Chapter in Exeter is excellent.

Not sure I would put Bath Spa on this list, I'd say it isn't in the same league as a lot of the others on this list.
