Just booked to go here for 2 weeks in December:

http://www.luxresorts.com/en/hotel-mauritius/luxbe...

Anyone have any experience with Lux*? They seem very very well reviewed and looks like the food is very good which was extremely important to us! Hoping to learn to scuba dive and see an octopus.

Only ever been on one AI holiday. 2 weeks Tenerife when I was 17.

I had to have a 3rd week off work to recover. Too much of this drinkpartydrink and not enough of this sleep

Two for me, not super-high end but very nice taking into account cost and the fact we have to go during the holidays.

Palladium Hotel Cala Llonga, Ibiza: Our last holiday prior to having a kid, adults only AI. Lucked out as booked whilst they were refurbing so only had artist impressions to go by and was very cheap in high season. Price has rocketed now and with good reason, best reasonably priced European AI we've done quite comfortably.

Insotel Punta Prima, Menorca: Took my son here at 8 months old, stunning location and grounds, lovely suites and very decent food.

Just booked Creta Maris in Crete, recommended by travel agent friend, reviews are really good

Done a few others over the years

Beaches Resort (Child friendly Sandals) Turks & Caicos excellent

Almond Beach Village Barbados, did this a few times, kids absolutely loved it, gets a fair bit of stick on some reviews, however never had any problems and always found it a great place to just doss around for a couple of weeks and let the world go by

Sandpiper Clubmed Florida, bolted this onto a trip to the land of the giant mouse, perfect if you have children who struggle to chill and constantly want loads of activities(especially sporty ones)

St Lucia resort near Pitons, cant remember the name of it, however think its changed now anyway was excellent at the time, kids loved seeing Father Christmas arrive at the beach on a boat with pressies for all the children (nice touch)

Slightly off track, but suppose its kind off AI always really enjoyed Cruising with Royal Caribbean around the Caribbean, When it was running Ocean Village cruises were always good value for money, however absolutely hated Thompson cruise around the Med, probably because I felt out off place without a weeks supply of vests and nylon football shirts !!!
Update: Have now returned from AI holiday at Creta Maris in Crete, Loved it, staff fantastic, food excellent, Accommodation very pleasant. All in all a good experience and would have no hesitation recommending it.

We done Hyatt Zilara Cancun in June. The spread was outstanding with seafood and steaks (various cuts) constantly on the go. True all inclusive (adults only) and fantastic place, location on the beach. Optics in room attached to premium drinks; Absolut, Captain Morgan, Johnnie Walker etc. To be honest we must have only had 2 drinks in the room. Pool drinks service was great, tipping helps $1 per serve saw us have great service through the week. Want to go back but will leave it a few years and experience some other places. The bar was set here though.

We have spent the last 5 Christmas/New Years at Moon Palace and really enjoy it, booked again for this year. The place is huge so does not suit everyone but now The Grand section is finally complete you will have over 20 great restaurants to choose from. If you play golf don't forget to take your clubs and plenty of balls. Steer clear of the timeshare presentations, it is the massive hard sell. Hope you enjoy it as much as my family do.

It may have been mentioned before, but we had the first part of our honeymoon in Sandals in Antigua.

http://www.sandals.co.uk/main/antigua/an-home/

Really enjoyed it, but it's worth renting a car for a couple of days and exploring yourself rather than the resort organised tours. (Or perhaps with another couple if you find one you get on with, this suggestion is not related to the wife-swapping threads going on in the Lounge.)

The free Scuba was good for me (certified already) and the wife (did a course and a shallow "experience" dive) all for little / no cost.

Food and drink very good, service friendly, resort very clean.

I can only echo these comments.
Went last August for our 25th wedding anniversary and absolutely loved it.
We're not normally attracted to all-inclusive, but it's sort of necessary for the Caribbean.

Loved the free Scuba. Loved all the food. Loved the booze. Perfect beach. Hobbycats. Hired a car for the duration and toured the island. Was there for Carnival - a special experience.

Glad to hear it's still just as good. It's almost exactly 7 years since we were there!

The hobbycats were fun. I've done a bit of (very basic) sailing before, and spent ages getting out nice and far, gradually worrying my (onboard too) wife more and more. Then turned round and went straight back to shore very quickly. hehe

We've done Sandals for the last 2 years. We did Grenada then Jamaica last year. Even though the concept is the same there is a big difference between resorts in terms of quality & service so choose carefully ensure your expectations are appropriate!

I'd like to try Grenada... was in Barbados (Mango Bay) last year and one of the families there went to Grenada for the 2nd week. We met up again at the airport home and they said it was fantastic but 1 week was ample - can't remember the name of the resort they went to but it was one you could take young children to. It's on the list of places to visit / stay. smile

This.

Last AI went to was a lovely small island, but only 1 restaurant. Eating in the same place 3 times a day and seeing the same staff was not something I would go for again.

20 sounds brilliant.

I'm just back from a 2 week stay there. The Grand section isn't yet complete, the waterpark isn't finished yet, there's a huge building under construction (more restaurants, bars?) and there are still full blocks of rooms being fitted out - the noise from the construction was our daily wake up call as we overlooked the new waterpark - which does look like it'll be good once it's open, though I wouldn't a room next to it when it does.

I don't want to ruin anyone's anticipation of a holiday, but I'd ask your travel agent what part of the resort you will have access to as they are phasing in different coloured wristbands some of which don't give you access to anything at the Grand (they are setting that up as a separate hotel now) without expensive day or evening passes being required.

I personally wouldn't go back, maybe it just wasn't my kind of resort/holiday.
