Currently in Morzine and it's been snowing for the last 48 hours, huge dump yesterday so really great conditions today.

Had an interesting day yesterday, it was snowing all day, this turned into a massive blizzard towards the end of the day, this then escalated into a huge thunder and lightening storm. We were at the top of the Mountain and they closed all the lifts due to the storm we had to pick our way down the mountain with our kids, including my 4 year old niece. Several pistes were closed due to lighting felled trees making them impassable. Had to clamber over and under the trees to get off the mountain. Was brilliant fun and will no doubt be an experience he kids will never forget.

A friend was stuck on a lift during the lightning storm. She and her partner were terrified as the lifts were being blown all over. How come the lifts were open anyway? Must have been a sudden storm.

It's her last day today and she hasn't bothered skiing frown

A few years ago I was skiing and it was clear blue sky but a long long way off some cloud. Anyway got onto the lift a long chair lift as it happens - wind picked up a lot on the way up the cloud started to come over quickly and has gone very dark
The last third was deep in the cloud it was not good at all strong wind and zero visibility.

I hung around for a while at the top thinking it would blow over but it didn't (15-20mins) so worked my way down the mountain took forever (at the top I couldn't see much more that the ends of my skis). Relieved to get down.

If you are up a mountain in the storm with trees fallen on the Piste I'd say that's getting towards brown trouser moment.

The weather did worsen pretty quickly. In the space of 5 mins it went from snowing to really strong winds, then thunder and lightening. I'd also have been terrified if I'd been stuck on the lift.

I've got admit, the danger didn't really register with us at the time, just saw it as a great adventure.

Just booked Tignes for mid April. Flying into Lyon. Any advice?
Tignes is great, you'll love it. If there is plenty of snow the Piste Perdue is fun, assuming you are competent as it's easy but narrow - it's from the bottom of Tommeuses down to La Daille.

I also really rate the black over at Le Fornet, it's called Foret and if there is good snow on it it's proper good fun.

Obviously La Face is a tick in the box, but the OK was also a world cup run (Womens I think) and it's a lovely wide and fast red.

There is a lot of great skiing in the area so you won't go far wrong.

Thats great, thanks. I'm not competent, very new to skiing, 10 hours at Snozone then the one trip to Bansko last week.

I'd ignore all my stuff then.

There are lots of blues across the map though so I'd look to cover as much off as you can - the eye of the needle (peak Aiguille Percée on the map) is worth seeing, the glaciers are worth getting to, skiing down to Brevieres and La Fornet are worth doing and you feel like you have been somewhere different. You can easily get a days skiing and not ski many runs twice the same day unless you particularly want to.

The scare chair (Leissieres) over the top of the mountain towards the Val glacier is the maddest chair I've been on.

All true.

The OK is still a men's downhill as well, they tend to mix and match which they use, but much easier at recreational speeds!

We were there a couple of years ago when the Europa cup was racing there - Opens your eyes smile

Face can get very busy later in the day as it's (rather unwisely) the only way down from one mountain to the centre of VdI. Lots of not-so-competent skiers on it and it's steep and often icy!

Having a great week in Sauze D'olux, Italians are all a bit mad , ski lifts are ramshackle compared to Austria, but some great runs, good offpiste & a good dousing of snow have made it enjoyable so far! Just on the way back from an away day, France is 35 mins away, so we have done Mongenevre & all the slopes around there, great fun & really quiet slopes..

Got two days left, then got to find a way to get to söll for a cheeky 5 days! Flights are mega £££ from Turin & taking 15hrs with stops! Any suggestions? rofl

Just trying to get any advice so i know what to expect, as it was a family member who i'm travelling with has organised it all.
