Out of interest, I Googled for a statue like that and the location surprised me.
That may or not help .
Not in the slightest given I've just returned from that neck of the woods...the fake-rock outcropping in the pic is the spitting image of ones near where we were...should have given me more of a clue! That may or not help .
Fuerteventura

Thinking about it, the location I have put is wrong. I know who its a statue of, I used to be heavily into windsurfing. Its Bjorn Dunkerbeck. He held the sailing speed record for a time, over 40knots on a windsurfer. Best I could do was 36knots

Blueg33 is on the right lines but danzitu has the right location, the statue is at Pozo Izquierdo on Gran Canaria. It's actually of one of the identical twins, Daida and Iballa Moreno who are from there and have been the top women wavesailors for a long time. Bjorn Dunkerbeck was the top male sailor in every windsurfing discipline for many years and came from near there. if you look closely there are three sail numbers on the top, E11-Bjorn's, E63 & E64 - Daida's and Iballa's.
I was in Gran Canaria on holiday and went there a few weeks ago but didn't bother to try and sail as it's windy port tack and onshore waves with a rocky beach and I'm too old for all that. I still sail flat water freeriding occasionally but I'm more into golf these days. My son competed at Pozo several times in the early 2000's when he was starting out on the world tour before he died in 2004, I don't have any photo's of him there but here's a couple of him in some big waves in Maui.
