We went to the Royal Mirage and stayed at the Arabian Court. Could not fault it. The main issue with Dubai, if you are looking at winter months is timing, ie avoiding Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and Russian school holidays. I would say the only fly in the ointment was the presence of the latter. Don't normally like to stereotype people but always on the phone, bleach blonde wives with boob jobs and a nanny to look after the kids.
Let me get this right. At certain times of year there are hordes of Blonde Russian women with boob jobs and you are avoiding those times? (TY4C goes to google Russian school holidays)Thankyou4calling said:

(TY4C goes to google Russian school holidays)loads of russians in january. their christmas is jan 7th so 1st-8th is public holiday. orthodox new year is then sometime around the 14th. its a key target market for january with loads of discounts available to russian travel agents, but doubt there'll be as many takers this year though as the ruble has fallen through the floor.
shame as its one of my favourite times of year for people watching and general merriment. russian women are awesome, if rather feisty and able to out-mental even the craziest latina.
i am told that the chinese go to town in the burj al arab breakfast buffet and will even bring tupperware and food bags to breakfast to load up for the rest of the day.
o/t but russians love an excuse for a day off work. october 23rd and december 17th are my favourites

Update....booked LRM. Other half flies out Emirates Business and driven to Hotel.
I fly to Dubai a day later for about the same price, on a 2 hour flight on FlyDubai and ill get a taxi....go figure!
Oh well, she is happy and I stop her moaning for at least another 12 months "its ok for you, you work in the sun all the time"!!
Majority of the work should have finished by Oct but the hotel next door will still be underway but not too bothered about that. Cheers for advice.

i was going to post this morning so it'll sound a pit like i'm pissing on your chips. apologies in advance.
i went down to the beach late last night [10ish] for a swim. the new building sites take up the entire stretch from the ritz carlton down to the hilton and from there down to the sheraton you have the reclaimed spit under construction. its far from picturesque and the strip of beach which is left is pretty poor.
on the plus side the LRM still has its own nice bit of beach and of course the cracking hotel grounds. just everything next to it is rather crappy.
be interested to hear how you find it but if others are looking for a resort/beach hotel i would be looking in jumeirah proper or the north facing side of the palm.
on the plus side, swimming at night in bath-warm waters is pretty great.

Just came back from a weekend at LRM last night. They are doing works on the main hotel but both the club and right hand side buildings are available. They have made what was the old reception into a great buffet restaurant and the spa and gym are fully functional. As usual staff were spot on.
You do hear some of the digging going on during the day when you walk into the car park but had no impact on my stay what so ever.

Thanks for update.
But obviously today its not the Hotel the missus is now worried about, its the choice of airline I'm putting her on! Honestly dear, you will be fine....dying in Business Class is a good way to go!
If she needs the reassurance you can tell her that was the first accident Emirates have ever had.But obviously today its not the Hotel the missus is now worried about, its the choice of airline I'm putting her on! Honestly dear, you will be fine....dying in Business Class is a good way to go!
Also, I know it's a bit late but traffic around JBR can be a nightmare! I avoid it whenever I'm there. That being said, when I used to stay in hotels Le Royal Meridian was by far my favourite.
I'm off to Dubai next month, staying at LRM as posted earlier. I've a pretty full itinerary but time for a couple of bars to be squeezed in.
I'm looking for upmarket places with music and pretty bling decor.
So far the Buddah bar and Bar 44 (for the views) are on the list and I'm thinking 40 Kong and either Cavalli or Noir at the Kempinski.
Can anyone give a view please?
Thanks

Toro toro across from the Buddha bar is ok, bar 44 is not that bling better trying atmosphere in the Burj kalifa or the Vault at JW Marriott Marques fro bling with a view.
If your going down town try Billionaire Mansion (part of Flav's billionaire club chain), St Regis Bar SZR, Clé Dubai DIFC, Carmel DIFC.
Going towards Jumeirah Gold Bar Burj Al Arab, or Hendricks Bar
