Car hire at Orlando International
Discussion
Does anybody know what std convertible cars Thrifty are using currently? The last two years it has been Camero which I would prefer to the Mustang that the likes of Alamo & the other in-terminal rental companies use. If they have switched to Mustang then I will go with the cheapest supplier as the Camero was slightly more expensive but worth it as it has the built in Sat-Nav

OIA? MCO I think you mean.
Plus, the Chrysler 200s gave been so heavily plagued with recalls, it's definitely not the majority fleet.
OP, I will find out for you next week.
Erm, OIA - Orlando International Airport - I live about 5 miles from the airport and fly in/out at least twice a week. We refer to it generally by it's name rather than it's IATA code, when we're not pretending to be worldly-wise.Plus, the Chrysler 200s gave been so heavily plagued with recalls, it's definitely not the majority fleet.

Thrifty and Dollar call on the same vehicle fleet and being previously owned by Chrysler have a longstanding (though no longer exclusive) connection with Chrysler and Dodge vehicles in their fleet.
Chrysler 200 most definitely is the most prevalent model in their convertible fleet. But you're obviously the expert, so feel free to correct me when you visit us next week.

obviously your experience of living 5 miles from an airport is more relevant than mine. I bow to your superior intellect. Dollar Thrifty being owned by Chrysler a decade ago must bear heavily on their fleet decisions. Likewise, the fact that they are now owned by Hertz, who were previously owned by Ford (about a decade ago) must have a real toss up between Ford and Chrysler come acquisition time.
As a resident of London, some 15 mins from King's X, if anyone needs any advice on rolling stock or railcards I'd be happy to weigh in.. Or KGX as we call it round these parts.
Yes - fair enough, maybe I did come across as being a bit obnoxious. Here's the thing. I park my car adjacent to the rental car lots at OIA (or MCO for the frequent flyers) pretty much every Sunday night and get back in it most Friday evenings. Thrifty/Dollar lot is full of row after row of Chrysler 200 verts. They are a lot cheaper than Mustangs and Camaros and Thrifty/Dollar are bottom of the volume market.
I work with FCA from time to time and I'm pretty certain that DTAG's convertible fleet is dominated by Chrysler 200 in terms of unit numbers.
See for yourself next week - hope you have a pleasant visit - though it's hotter than the very gates of hell here just now.

I've just booked a mustang convertible with budget at MCO. Hope they have one when we get there!
Was odd at first when they direct you to a line of cars and you just choose one!
Getting to pick your own is good. Gives you the opportunity to look round them first so you can avoid the ropey ones. Switch the ignition on and see what the milage is. Last time we had a mustang it must have been nearing the end of its life cycle it had 50k miles on it and was showing its age. Not the best built of cars to begin with but life as a rental accelerated the deterioration of the interior. Was odd at first when they direct you to a line of cars and you just choose one!

Got here....all the Mustangs had gone ??
Was offered a Beetle cab....but the nice guy at the desk gave me a Camaro SS V8 for $45 extra, so well chuffed
You cannot fault the service over here compared to at home..
Is the fuel still stupidly cheap? you will need it for the 8-pot, I was only getting 20 mpg out of the smaller 6 cylinder last year. Was offered a Beetle cab....but the nice guy at the desk gave me a Camaro SS V8 for $45 extra, so well chuffed

I had a V8 Escalade and that did 20MPG. Although IIRC the V8 version of the Durango that I was bizarrely given a couple of years ago did about 12, which was annoying as we were driving that a long way.Do watch your speed though - compared to the UK there are cops of one sort or another everywhere and State Troopers often sit in central reservations, especially if there's a dip in them, so they're very hard to spot.
