Monarch Airlines on its way out?
Discussion
180 days to claim back through Paypal - my 180 days expires on 9th October so close. The other I paid on debit and have ATOL protection but apparently paying by Paypal you don't.
Hopefully all works out as the flight not covered is flying the day before my 50th and going away for nearly 4 weeks (come back Ryanair).

They have until midnight to demonstrate they have enough cash to keep their ATOL license.

Just looked on Flight Radar and all bar one of monarch flights are heading back to the UK. That can't be good can it?
Probably means little.
It is the end of the summer season and not yet the ski season.
Only flights that may make any money will be ex pats to Spain, a few weekend breakers or long haul.
Get the aircraft back home for service and the crews home to save hotel and parking cost.

We've got flights to spain with monarch booked for next Sunday 9th October flying back on 16th October, with monarchs 12 day extension which ends on the 12th we will still be in spain. If they go bust, we will be stuck in spain. We paid with visa and as we are worried about being stuck in spain, do you think we would be able to claim our money back on the flihts and cancel holiday. We haven't paid for hotel yet so we can cancel that with no problem. We really hope monarch comes through this as we've been flying with them for years and they are one of the better airlines.
I think Monarch's largest issue now is regaining their customer's confidence.
For the last couple of summers, we've used a friend's apartment in Spain, and on both occasions we've flown Monarch Birmingham to Gibraltar. I've got the money sitting in the bank to book for next summer, but I'm reluctant to book with Monarch again, and I'm considering using another airline to Malaga - which is a bit less convenient than Gibraltar.
Even though I can pay for the flights with a credit card, I'll still be in trouble if they go bust just before we're due to fly, and I'm left trying to find alternatives flights at the last minute in the middle of the school holidays.

Although the protection would give me my money back if they go bust before I travel, I'm then left with having to scour the market for alternative flights, which will inevitably be a lot more expensive than they are now. It's this which is putting me off booking with them. Edited by Gareth1974 on Saturday 1st October 09:49

I fly with them quite often Manchester - Gibraltar and I've never had any issues with them, and the staff have always been really, really nice. Cannot fault them.
IMO they're certainly a cut above the likes of Ryanair and Squeezyjet; I actually didn't realise they were competing at that level. I just assumed they were holiday charter planes.

Absolutely, I always choose to travel with Monarch from Manchester as well, despite Ryanair & EasyJet at Leeds being much closer to home. Monarch are vastly superior to both.
