Looking to book flights to LA next summer, but prices keep going up. BA my only option as I have £440 of Avios points I can use against them, but before I book, does anyone know when BA will have a flight sale again?

I'm assuming they will do something around xmas/ new year but would be good to know

BA had a sale recently (last month); if it follows last year, the next sale will start the week before Christmas. I am waiting for it as well as I am looking for cheap flights from Dublin to the US (I've also got a BA voucher which I need to use before it expires).

BA flight prices have no rhyme or reason to them in my experience. For a few years the OH and I have been thinking of going to Phoenix and I've seen the flight prices do all sorts of weird things, including not going down at all during a flight sale and dropping to the lowest we've ever seen them just after Brexit. Go figure!

26 December would be a likely candidate for BA's New Year sale to start.

If you register on their mailing list they will e-mail you to let you know when it starts. Be flexible if you want to get the best deals, particularly around the beginning and end of school holidays.

Try doing a car plus flights booking, even if you don't want the car, it can drop you down into a lower fare bucket then just the flight.

Any particular reason you're stuck on ba? Check Norwegian and air NZ

They definitely do:

"The yield management problem is best described as a non-linear,
stochastic, mixed-integer mathematical program that requires data such as passenger demand pattern,
cancellations, group reservations, cargo load, and other estimates. Solving this problem would require
approximately 250 million decision variables!"

It doesn't rhyme, but there's your reason.

How many avios is that? Can you book a reward flight with that many and then pay for any companions?

66,000 for £440 - need 96,000 for £600

Thanks for the tip - after watching prices climb steadily, they suddenly dropped yesterday. Bizzarely booking flights and a car worked out nearly £900 cheaper than just the flights and I get to keep the Avios for another day. So saved about £1400 overall by not having to book a car separately.

Missus was giving me grief about booking them so couldn't hold out up until January with all body parts still intact

At that price, you'll get much more value on straight redemptions (especially on short haul) with those Avios.

Such a lottery! Cant use Avios on my 4 Lat Am flights for some reasons and then they screw up the part Amex points part cash booking. 4 hours on the phone later (sic) with all my points gone but no flights (!) I'm told I can cancel the 72 hour held booking, lose the £40 holding fee and try again with my Amex points now returned. Flights by then had gone up by over a grand!!! furiousfuriousfurious

So don't assume you can use Avios or other rewards points - they mostly just like dirty cash!

LHR-SFO-PHX can be vastly cheaper than LHR-PHX direct, mainly because the 2 routes are high volume routes for BA and AA. Managed to score premium economy for £850 back in January, when economy direct was dearer.
