Get to Westminster and just look at London Eye, Houses Of Parliament and Big Ben, then Jubilee line direct to Canary Wharf, change on to DLR to Cutty Sark (sit at the front, no driver, goes under the river, kids love it,) and then river bus back to Westminster.
Cheap and cheerful.
We always get the DLR from bank and get the kids at the front - sometimes we go all the way to greenwich and get off at the cable car on the way back.Cheap and cheerful.
Then over the river on the cable car to the 02, stand on the meridian then get the jubilee line to westminster , then usually walk up to covent garden passing downing street.
One of the things my kids most love doing in London is taking a bag of nuts/popcorn into St James park and feeding the pigeons and squirrels.
With patience you get the birds sitting on you and the squirrels taking food out of your hands. Quite magical for them and it costs next to nothing

Can you still watch the pelican feeding at St James, or am I thinking of somewhere else? With patience you get the birds sitting on you and the squirrels taking food out of your hands. Quite magical for them and it costs next to nothing
Can't believe I start this thread over a year ago - finally got round to taking the kids to visit London last week! The whole day went really well, managed to fit a good amount of stuff into it, traffic was light, and no queues anywhere. I think the kids would have been happy just getting on and off tube trains and riding the escalators all day!
Started at the Mall in with changing of the guard, walked through Trafalgar Square and then down to Embankment, went up the Monument and Tower Bridge. Also had a ride on DLR (right at the front), and went over the Air Line (still impressive, even in the dark), and then managed to squeeze in a visit to Hamleys (at 8pm an hour before closing, and it was almost empty). Doesn't sound like that much, but we walked 9 miles in totall, so the kids were exhausted (youngest is only just 4).
Wanted to do the Postal Museum with the ride on mail rail, but that was closed for maintenance, next time.
